I'll preface my question: I know full well that a QD suppressor is not the ideal selection for a precision rifle. Since I already have this suppressor for another weapon, this is the one I'll be using. Given those constraints, let's focus on the specifics of the my questions below.

I have a SDN-6 on an SBR that I'd like to be able to put on my Rem 700. I have no real need to shoot my bolt gun suppressed and would not buy a can for that purpose, but since I already have a can capable of doing it I'd like to have it as an option. My question is mounting the thing. The three options from AAC I'm aware of are the Blackout flash hider, the plain muzzle brake, and the Brakeout. I looking for help comparing them from those that own/have shot them on a bolt gun.

I'm curious how much more effective at braking the brake is versus the Brakeout, and whether the reduction in overpressure/report is a good trade off. ie: does the Brakeout still work "enough" and is it significantly more pleasant for your shooting partners? Alternatively, is it the worst of both worlds instead of the best?

I don't use a brake now and never have. I read on here about how much easier it is to stay on target, etc, etc with a brake. Is the advantage such that I should consider the brake/Brakeout route, or should I just stick with the flash hider?

I've done as much looking around as I can, but the few comparisons I've seen are in regards to ARs - nothing for these devices on a bolt gun.

If it makes a difference in how the brake functions, I don't plan on cutting the barrel down any less than 20". Also, it's a .308

Anyone with experience with one/both/all three of these mounts, please chime in.

What caliber is your Rem 700? If it is a caliber with some recoil I would go with the full brake. I put a full brake on my 700 SPS Tac. .308 and run the Brakeout on my .223 AR, and I have been happy with those setups. Some rifles have a "ping" with the Blackout flash hider, so I avoided that. Personally, i am more concerned about recoil reduction than flash suppression. My AR does not kick bad, so I did not go with the full brake on it. Really went with the Brakeout more for more for aesthetic reasons. If my SDN-6 ever gets approved (mailed 1/21/13; pending 3/8/13) I will probably never shoot either one again without the can.

I have both brakeout and the muzzle brake. The brakeout is on a 300 blk sbr the brake on a 16.5" POF .308. I would just get the brake on a bolt gun it would be the best at reducing muzzle rise its a little shorter too, both brakeout and brake are gonna be loud. Only advantage I see in the brakeout is it is cheaper, I wouldn't even consider the flash hider.

Once you shoot it suppressed you may not want to shoot it unsuppressed any more. I had the flash hider on my .308 initially. I pulled it off to use on a 300 BLK and went with the brake on the .308. I honestly don't like shooting with the brake without the can on there. The concussion sucks compared to the flash hider. It also opened my groups up since the brake mount didnt allow the can to mount up as tight as it should. After I trued it up it no longer affects accuracy and makes me happy. I do however have a Thunderbeast paid for that I'll see one day for my bolt guns. SDN-6 is a great can and has the potential to perform great for you on your bolt guns as well.

I too have brakeouts and muzzle brake. Brakeouts are on semi's and they work pretty good. Def better than the flash hiders ive shot on other people guns. The muzzle brake on my 308 bolt gun is great. No vibration like the brakeouts. I havent shot a brakeout on the bolt gun so cant really help you there. But above post is right that when you start shooting suppressed you wont want to go back. Just more pleasant to shoot. I had a really big custom brake on my bolt gun before getting the can and aac accesories. The aac brake isnt as good at reducing recoil as the old brake but its still good, especially when paired with the can. Bottom line i agree with earlier post, muzzle brake for the bolt gun and brakeouts for semis. Oh and i also shoot the SDN6. Great can, really amusing how quiet the 300 blk is with subs. Enjoy the can, happy shooting.

Thanks for the info gentlemen. This kind of stuff is exactly what I'm after.

Jason - you are very right about the subs in the 300BLK. That thing is sooooo quiet. (I have the flash hider on that SBR, btw.) I see you are in Houston; I'll be moving down your way after I finish up with the army next year. How is the shooting community down your way? I've done a little reading, but it's always better to get it straight from the horse's mouth.

My only (or best) recommended option on my SCAR 17S was the 51T Blackout Flash Hider for my SDN6.. although I do get a little more muzzle movement than my factory PWS brake, it doesnt cause me any problems with my accuracy.. I have to get one for my M4 so would like to know other peoples opinions..
