I am looking hard at this scope ... is it good to go for 1,000 yard shooting with a .308?

It will be perfect for what your using it for. I recently switched out optics on two rifles, went from the S&B 2-25s to the Bushnell 4.5-30s, I have had great luck with the 3.5-21s as well. Yep, I've got this scope and it do it real nice. I've been impressed with using the reticle instead of dialing, pretty darn accurate.

I agree. It does both really well, has a great reticle for quick shots on steel and when hunting but also tracks like a champ for dialing.
