Rifle Scopes S&B DT or MTC Turrets?

I have DT MTC version, I can see how people don't like it. Not the DT the MTC part. The major Mil detent is STIFF. It is hard to go .1 mill past the Mil detent. You do get used to it. There is a thread on how to make it lighter though. To me the MTC is great if it were about 50% less stiff. Everyone would love it if it were. I lightened mine. Good luck!

Not sure if it is the same as the 3-12x but I love the MTC. It is a bit hard to get to 11,21,31...etc... At first but not bad once you get a feel for it. It is so nice for cranking through 1 full mil at a time. My .02

In a 5-25 PMII with MSR reticle what are the pros and cons of the DT or MTC Turrets? Are they both as reliable?

Nice choice

I had the same question after seeing some negative opinions on the MTC. After asking around I got the feeling the people who don't like them are in the minority, despite being quite vocal. I went ahead and got the MTC version. So far I like it... makes dialing very very fast, at the cost of slightly more effort to fine tune at the end. You can dial .1 after the click with some practice, and even if you skip ahead, it's pretty easy to tell how far you went and dial back. I imagine the clicks will "break-in" with time, and if not, S&B can remove them for about $75 (or you can tone them down, but it will violate your warranty).

Another thing that I considered is the grip on the turrets. The MTC version (black one, not the MTC/LT) has big grippy surfaces on the turrets. I really liked that--both the regular DT and the newest MTC/LT have tiny slippery grip surfaces. Given that the turrets are fairly stiff, the grippy surface is great.

I think you can't lose with the MTC version, since it can be undone if you hate it, and the turret grip is fantastic.

If one is trying out the MTC version without first mounting it to a rifle, it may seem impossible to stop on a desired setting. It is much more user friendly once the MTC is mounted. Having said that, of the Schmidts I own, all are standard DT's except for one. With adequate time spent shooting and dialing I believe it to be a minor issue. My lone MTC is the locking version which is unnecessary for my applications. As with everything else, there is inherent subjectivity as well as variances in user needs and preferences.
