I've got an AR15 with M720v surefire and a DBAL-i2.

I'm looking for another IR light for my helmet/pvs-14 setup.

Surefire M1 too weak?

Surefire M952V too bright?

Get both?

Eventually I'll be getting a FLIR thermal for spotting.

I like the SF M1 for navigation (70 yards and in) and really like the PT MPLS's here, Princeton Tec Charge PRO ? MPLS ? Tactical Night Vision Company as this is my favorite for versatility, a great system.

Sorta scary-isn't it!!

Vic and I agreeing on the same thing. Good light recommendations, although I do not get 70 yards, but then my eyes are a lot older than Vic's are. More than adequate though for close in navigation.

I have seen pictures of people who have put the Torch Pro etc on their helmets. Scanning will give you eye shine from the animals at a good distance

Pictures are worth a thousand words

We typically see Surefire Helmet Lights, M1's and Streamlight Sidewinders attached to helmets. The issue with helmet mounting higher power spot type IR Illuminators is they seldom point directly where you want them too. The Luna EIR-3 has windage and elevation adjustments which help but sometimes there is not enough adjustment to get it exactly where you want it. It also has a built in low profile Picatinny mount which attaches to any of the major helmet brands via Picatinny rail: PT Helmets, OPSCore and Team Wendy. If you have Velcro strips on your helmet (easier on top) you can direct the illuminator where you want it and hold it in place with Velcro. Obviously the smaller and lighter the better.

The best IR helmet mount I've found, and I have six of them, is the Eagle Tac T100C2 MKII 3,400mW IR LED with one 18650 battery on LOW.....

Wow thank you for showing our TNVC Torch Pro, we've sold thousands of them to happy customers, glad you like it. So folks know, we also sell packages here with the Torch Pro for many applications.
Class1 DBAL-I2 / Torch PRO FUSION Package ? Tactical Night Vision Company
TNVC Torch PRO Infrared Illuminator ? Tactical Night Vision Company
Torch PRO Infrared Illuminator Head Module ? Tactical Night Vision Company Head only that can go onto any Surefire 6p, G2, etc.

Also the Torch Pro can use any Surefire pressure switch if needed. Thank you again for depicting our very well received IR Torch Illuminator!

Not sure you much older than me? Glad you like the recommendations. I remember last year training with Surefire at a local NV class we put on where they were trying to convince me the 952V really go out to 300+ yards. While yes, you can "see" the beam a bit, useable effective range to see in the shadows is really more like 250max and in. They say 100 and in with the M1. :) 70 may push the effective and usable range but hey my eyes getting up there too! It might be 50 yards next year! hehehe

I also use the eagle tac 100 on my helmet and a XLR red led, both use the 18650, have used the Torch-Pro on it and didn't have any problem with it as I was using it only for long distance and the FOV in the pvs14 made up for any miss alignment

I have tried the Torch Pro on my helmet and it is simply too bright for me to use with my PVS-14.

Skypup you are in luck! The Luna has a variable gain feature so you can dim it down. Plus you can still fit a Luna on your helmet maybe even two they are small enough :)

You are welcome! I do like it! It helps me sell a lot of Luna EIR's and ELIR's. Thanks again!

Where did you source your Eagle Tac light?

Ah a lovely back and forth between representatives of two major players in this arena. At least I've been lead to believe they're both major players.

I'm not sure exactly how to feel about knowing that I'm going to probably end up spending thousands of dollars with one of them.

The SF 952V is a very good light combination set that was developed to be weapons mounted. I have several and they work great in either mode on the weapon. IMHP it is too big to be helmet mounted. If I want IR capability past about 40 yards I go with a hand held unit of which there are plenty to choose from.

I have NEVER needed any windage and elevation adjustment on a helmet light. My head moves up and down and side to side. I like a Surefire M1 on my helmet. I have used both of the TNVC torches (old style and Torch pro ) and they are great lights. They work and mine have never had any issues. The M1 I like on a helmet because of small lightweight size and they produce a nice soft viewing light inside 75 yards. Not a reach out and touch someone light but great for a helmet and ranges inside 100 yards.

If I need to reach out far I prefer my TNVC Torch Pro. I like to keep gear simple and windage and elevation on a weapon light has just not been an issue for me. TNVC has always gave me great service and support.
