It is time to ask for help. I recently purchased a scar17 with 16" barrel and can not seem to find a scope that I am happy with. Being in a small town with very few gunshops within an hour drive, I have not been able to personally look at many options. My budget is between $500 and $1,000 for scope and qd mount (larue, bobro, adm). I prefer a variable power compact scope to an acog. Any suggestions and experience is greatly appreciated.

I've used one quite extensively on a SCAR17, and liked it very much. That 20% would be just about enough for a QD bobro (of which the 1-6 I've used is mounted on).

I'd agree with the above - if you can stretch it, I'd go with the Leupold all day long. But, if you want to stay in budget, I think the SS is still gonna be the best option available..IMHO of course.
Another to consider in that price range is the Sightron S-Tac 1-7x24. It has tested very well against even the amazing Swaro Z6i. True 1x on the bottom end is the way to go, and 6x - 8x on the top is much handier than 4x for shooting long range or for 100y groups.

Excellent suggestions, thanks! I wouldn't have even thought about some of them. The only ones that I have been able to look at are the NF scopes that I can't afford, viper pst, and the Leupold Vxr line.
