I am wanting to put a NV scope on a crossbow for beaver eradication close to a neighbor's house. Crossbow effective range will allow for adequate use of Gen 1 NV in my opinion. I now the differences in the gens and am looking to get some better gear down the road but I have 2 acres underwater and I think Gen 1 should fill this role well. Can I get some recommendations for a Gen 1 NV scope?

nope...but if youre willing to spend $400-$500 on a gen 1 rifle scope why not save yourself the headaches and wasted money and search arounnd for a used gen 2 unit. they are not even on the same planet for performance. you can find a used pvs-4 on occasion for $800-900 bucks sometimes less. the performance you will get from that will be leaps and bounds better. what ever you get make sure to get a good performing IR light. thats makes all the difference.
He was trying to avoid announcing to the world what he's doing it sounds like. Viz light is probably a no go
