got an older 308 heavy barrel in a trade, has walnut stock 24 inch barrel
question for you Rem Heads

on the barrel is a Bell and KH26
according to a rem webpage I found it is May 1939 or 1961, 1987?
I did not know they made Heavy barrel 308's back then?

It was not 1939 since that cartridge was designed in the early '50s.

It seems like the action serial number would give you more information about the date of manufacture.

Looks to be not a factory stock, so in the Manners GAT it goes, Thanks

so after talking to another member it seems this may be an early wood stock 700 P

Yup it's the earlier Remington 700 police. That stock could be sold on here for someone looking to do an M40 Vietnam era build. Just round off the for end, and add an aluminum butt plate and some 513T swivels, and you're good to go.

cleaning up the stock and glass bedding it, will post photos later, ran some sweets down the tube, took out a little copper and bore is very nice. should be a good rifle
