Anyone Dissatisfied with a Noveske 7.62mm barrel?

I found this Noveske offered for sale:

Questions:

Does the polygonal rifling offer anything besides less bullet deformation by the grooves of traditional rifling?
Most polygonal bores are hammer-forged, but I've not heard of a SS barrel being hammer forged, so I assume this is button rifled?
Accuracy lifespan of polygonal bores in general, and Noveske SS in particular?

Finally, the shop wants a lot for this 'prize'. Like, 800 clams! Is this fluted Noveske a rare bear???

I have the same barrel in my ar10 but non fluted. I have owned it for several years, it shoots awesome! My only complaints are length and weight, if I had it to do over I would go shorter. With my can on the rifle is pretty long.

I am no barrel expert so I can't comment as to how they are made but mine is a SS polygonal barrel 1 in 10 also. In the past John would flute any barrel as an option so it was a feature that was readily available. Not sure about now. Cost is something only you can decide, seems a little high to me though.

Well they just don't make 7.62 barrels anymore. So if you really looking only for a Noveske it is slim pickings. Otherwise they are good to go, had one on an N6. I will say I had a couple of custom barrels made and if you look at the cost. 800 is about where you are at for custom with out the gas tube or block.

360 - 400 for a blank - Rock , Kreiger , Obermeyer , Bartlein.
50- 75 for a barrel extension
250 - 300 for chambering, threading and profiling.

I have that exact barrel and as far as I can tell there aren't many fluted ones out there. Mine had been modded to fit an MWS when I bought it 2nd or 3rd hand. Like others have said they are heavy and somewhat length and if I had it to do again an 18" would look more appealing.

That said mine is a HAMMER and is solely responsible for building my confidence shooting large pattern gas guns. It has done no worse than ~1 1/2moa with ANYTHING I've put through it, that's including some of the turd rounds through it for load development. My go to load for it is a 175 SMK in LC 7.62 brass over 44.4 grains of Varget. I'm getting close to 2700fps out of it and a consistent 1/2-3/4moa. I put on a PRI adjustable gas block, which I almost consider a requirement on large AR's and it tamed down the recoil greatly and it's much, much easier on brass. It's still a fairly warm load and I'm thinking about backing in down a little to save my brass and the gun some though.

I had John build my rifle several years back, after I got the suppressor I started to have issues with over gassing so I sent it back in and had the rail and gas block installed. Have not had any trouble since then and I run it suppressed 100% of the time.

To the OP, if you're not married to the idea of a Noveske barrel, but I can assure you from first hand experience that JP Enterprises 308 barrels will shoot lights out. JP - Barrels

Not sure of the current availability but they look to be a few clams less expensive than Noveske. I have one of them too on an AR-10. Great barrel, but not as accurate as my JP LRP07
