When I first started reloading my .45acp I used cast bullets and had the seater set wrong. Now I have the blue ring stuff, I think it's some kind of bullet lube. I fear its giving me inaccurate seating depths, what would be the easiest way to clean it out?

Just disassemble the die and clean it. I don't think a shot of brake cleaner is going to blow out caked on bullet lube well. If you need you can wam it up with a hair drier to help melt the lube some and wipe it out with a q-tip. Once you have all of the major gunk out then you can use a cleaner. Make sure you finish with a light lube to prevent corrosion - especially if you use brake cleaner.

Just another thought.... Don't try to seat and crimp lead 45s at the same. Bell first, powder, seat, then taper crimp (separate die). This will also keep your sating die cleaner (and produce better loads)

That is Ifb you were doing that of course..

I remove the seating stem and wipe off the lube.

It is wax based, so solvents take time to work. A simple wipe with a paper towel removes 99%.

One advantage of Dillon dies, you can remove the seating stem for cleaning without changing the adjustment.

+ the Dillon dies have a vent hole so that the lube doesn't affect the seating depth, at least with the soft lubes I use it doesn't. Use a hair dryer to melt the wax out of your die, away from the press of course.
