Rifle Scopes Old vs New: Steiner Military Scope

I'm looking at purchasing a new Steiner Military scope. What is the difference between the old model 3-12x50 and the new 3-15x50? I can get the old one at a closeout price of $1,200 or the new one at $2,900. Thanks

I'm just curious as to Where? I've seen em advertised for around that Price too...but all those sources seem to be out of Stock when checking availability.

Is there a difference in the glass, build quality, reliability and so on between the two? Whats new with the turrets?
The Steiner closeout scope seemed to be the best bang for my buck. Opinions? Thanks

No difference if glass, coatings, build quality, or reliability. The new elevation turret is the rising style with the second rev numbers visible on the second rev, instead of the older pin extrusion to indicate you are on the second rev. 4X's are a great deal right now, but as noted, they are getting hard to find. The 56 will be a little brighter at dusk and dawn, if that is worth it to you. The 3-12x56 was originally designed as a super bright, super clear scope, in daylight hours, I doubt you will be able to tell the difference.

So I just got off the phone with Steiner. The rep basically echoed Quickdraw40 with the addition of a new lens coating which consisted of a little better light transmission and better scratch resistance. Thanks Quickdraw40

Not really much at all, only about 6mm.

I was looking at the Steiner Military scopes at Sportsman's Guide also. $1,120 for the 3-12x50 with the new membership plus $30 member fee minus $10 coupon and free shipping totaled $1,140. Then on top of that I had $140 in gift cards from promotions back in December. Grand total of $1,000. They told me earlier that they had 17 left in stock. Seems to be a decent deal. I hope I like it. Thanks
