I have a Sako 75 300WSM. It is a custom Rifle that wears a Hart Barrel contour #4 fluted. The action is stamped SM. The rifle is fairly heavy and it shoots well and I enjoy hunting and shooting with it. Problem is it is a little too heavy for hunting.
The factory stock is bedded very nicely but I would like to lose some weight if I could. I am considering a new lighter stock. I understand I don't want something too light to where it becomes a handful but there has to be something out there lighter than the factory that will work. Does anyone have any suggestions on what stock to get?
I also plan on having the bolt fluted. Any suggestions on anyone that Flutes Sako Bolts?

Thanks in advance. Slhunter23

Quality stock for a Sako 75, Mcmillan is about the only good choice.

For a hunting rifle and light weight, look into Sako Varmint, HTG, or the game scout if they can make the inlet.
If you need lightweight Edge fill is the thing.
McM can give you a approx weight when you know what you want.
Expect around 6 months for delivery.

I had my Sako 75 bolt fluted by Mr.Kampfeld at Kampfeld Customs. It's done in a Remington Ti action styled flute. The work was fast and beautiful. Also, here is a pic of a McMillan Edge stock on another Sako 75 Finnlight. Hope this helps you. RG

RG the bolt looks great. Where did you get your McMillan stock? If you ordered from McMillan how long did it take? I spoke with them today and it is about a six month wait like Powermac said, I really don't want to wait that long if I can keep from it. Does anyone know if anyone else even makes an aftermarket stock? McMillan is the only one I have found so far that produces a stock for my rifle.

If you can't wait for 6 months there are a few other options that i know of, but McMillan is in my opinion the best product by far. Any way i will write those that i know of.

Try Bell & Carlson if the 6 month wait for a McM is too much, they do make decent stocks.
They have been making them for the 75, not sure what's in current production line though.

GRS (grsriflestocks.com) is available in all they're models but the Long Range.
Kelby imports them to the US.
These stocks are of good quality, adjustable, but not very light, the laminate still need oil if your not coating it though.

KKC makes a stock for Sako 75, wood stock witch you would have to import.
Imo looks funky, but has good ergonomics, decent cheek piece, and supposed to be fairly durable.
Do not know much about these stocks.

I am also quite sure Alex Sitman of Masterclass stocks, or Joel Russo could make you a beautiful and good quality wood stock but would not be cheap or fast.

Have seen one custom made Sako 75 chassis using AW mags and AICS skins, but if i remember correct it was done by some private person with machining skills.
Making it feed AW mags flawless should be very easy though.

slhunter23, the McMillan stocked gun is not mine. It was purely for your reference as to how it would look. I wanted to change mine, but honestly....I like the factory stock. The like the feel of the palm swell....plus it's very light. This is my lightweight mountain gun. RG
