So this is a letter for someone who applied for an "assault weapon certificate" and did not complete and return it in time. They are sticking to what they said. Register it or lose it. It's jacked up no matter how you look at it though and I hate to see it.
That sucks. When did you send it in? I have a hard time believing they got it on the 1st or 2nd and sent you that letter the same or next day...
If this was a letter to you that blows, especially if you planned on registering it and just got it in late, that would be the worst of both sides. It's not registered and you don't get to lawfully keep it.
This will be even worse if or when they send these letters out to people who went along with their demands and did actually register their guns and mags.

they will be sending out swat teams next... cali is already sending swat teams for people that the state says can no longer own firearms.

Ummm... Read the article. Twice and no where did I see any mention of any agency using swat teams to confiscate weapons. Way to spin it though.
when 9 cops surround a home in the middle of the night dressed like those guys in the pics. looks like a swat team to me...

Dressed like what, police officers? How else would you have them dress? I see nothing "swat" about that picture and there certainly isn't anything about swat teams mentioned in the article. On the other hand, you should focus on what the article really is about. Getting guns out of the hands of convicted felons and sex offenders.

and one more thing ,they are not just taking felon and sex offenders guns in California, the people in the article that were visited by the nine (non swat team) cops in the middle of the night because the wife had spent 2 days in a mental facility. so if your wife has a nervous breakdown or you have a problem with work and tell a doctor. you will be visited by 9 ( non-swat team) cops in the middle of the night and your weapons taken.

i guess you are OK with this. and then i guess in Con. and NY if you don't turn your firearms in (because whatever reason some state asshat decides) in, 9 (non swat team) cops will visit you in the middle of the night and take your weapons.

Found it interesting that it said DOJ Police on their uniforms. Not your standard uniformed officers, never seen a patrol officer with a drop leg on his patrol belt. If a two night stay for mental issues relieves you of your rights, then there are a lot of Veterans that will be stripped, just for getting help with depression and suicidal thoughts. Hell, you can get stuck in a VA mental health facility if you get upset at the VA by a doctor filling out 3rd party paperwork and EODing you. Bam, your rights are gone. That's a lot of power that one person who will only know you for 5 minutes, has over the rest of your life

I don't recognize our country anymore. This isn't the place I grew up learning about. This will continue gradually one state at a time.
I never said I was okay with it. When it comes to mental health its a fine line as to who's fit and who isn't and who determines such. My issue was with you trying to create alarm by saying something that had zero merit to it.

First they tell you if you register it you can keep it... Next comes the excuse to take it from you now they know you have it...
Then again people are such idiots these days and vote for such stupid loosers, they almost deserve what is coming to them all, it's just a shame the few good ones will have to suffer with all the rest who deserve their fate.

I agree with this. Shame on those that register anything. The only reason I could see for a registration is if you need said registration prior to taking possession of said item. Other then that, only a fool would register anything. If you happen to be one of those that did register something and now they want to take it from you, file a report for lost/stolen property.
On the other side, some may choose to register something, knowing that it will eventually be taken away, so that they can have the use of it and practice / train with it till they have to hand it in. (Since anything not registered, can't be taken out to have fun with).
In some places like NY you may want to do that so that your children can train with yours and even though the state will come take it away when you die, hopefully you have left your kids something special behind just for them.
Either way it sucks, because you can register it & then they let you use it till they decide to take it away, or you can not register it, but that also means you can't have fun with it & most likely can't let anyone else (including significant others & kids, unless they are truly trustworthy) ever know you have it. Then you have to figure out before you die who is trustworthy enough to pass on the stash to.

Jan 01 is a USPS holiday. No mail post marked or delivered. So the State wouldn't get mail till the 2nd. Form letter sent to everybody?
If you were dumb enough to send in your registration request SO close to the deadline that it might not get there in time, you might be too dumb to own a gun in the first place.

It's not about confiscating the guns, at least not at first. First it becomes impossible to use them unless they are registered. That forces all unregistered versions underground. Then, when there is no public use for that gun and no more can be acquired, the number of people who can legally own and use them is left to naturally dwindle to extinction. It's not an event, it's a process.

Are there any stories of Peace Officers refusing to confiscate weapons yet? I'm really hoping these reports starts surfacing. I haven't lost faith in you guys yet. However, the lines are being drawn.

For the most part the State already knows who has what....all long gun and pistol sales that are completed through a dealer are known to the State Police as they are reported. State Police keeps a copy of these forms and I guess are now looking to match up what is in their records with what was reported by the public. Those who do not risk felony arrest....simply put risk losing all of the firearms that they now own. Overnight we have a whole new class of felons who are by any rational standard the most law abiding group in this country.
For the record this letter was sent to an electrician friend of mine...
Private sales of long guns did not require State authorization before this new legislation kicked in. Now one needs a certificate of eligibility to purchase ammo and long guns. Pistol transfers have required a State authorization number for several years.

No shit, they don't want you to consider an option that will actually have law abiding citizens who work and pay taxes to pack up and leave, not if you're willing to do 1-4 --they wanna keep those types. That'll hurt their GDP and bottom line, both social and financial, and they're playing on the fact you have roots there most likely. But it's what I'd do, it's what I think the OP should do. Turn it into a Detroit.
If everyone who truly loved their rights would move out of these stupid fucking states and they realized the loss in tax revenue they'd change their tune. People registering them or bitching about it are doing it wrong. I realize its not a change to be made overnight, give a friend your firearms for safe keeping and start looking for jobs. When your employer asks you why you are leaving tell them you can't live in a state that infringes upon your second amendment rights.

More misleading comments. This guy wasn't arrested. According the the articles he was given a citation/summons and he was released from the scene with his firearm and magazine. While I don't agree with the legislation in CT or any other anti gun state, what's the purpose of making things up?

He was definitley not arrested. Although, an unconstitutional law was, in fact, upheld. I applaud the officer for not being a total dick but he still went too far. Telling
For some clarification, the letter was drafted before the January 1, 2014 deadline. It is an EXAMPLE of a letter that would be sent out. The date was used as a placeholder. The amount of forms submitted for AW and magazine registration have not been sorted through yet and won't be for months. That letter will not be mailed to anyone anytime soon unless they are making a separate pile of applications without a 12/31/13 or earlier post mark. As someone mentioned above, state government is not that efficient.
