Ok guys and gals, need a little info/insight. Long story short, I went to the ER last may with an accute pain in my right side. When I got there, they took me into a room and I became violently sick. After throwing up, the pain went away. They did the usual pee in a cup, but only found slight traces of blood. No pain meds needed and after running a bag of fluids through me sent me on my way. They said it was most likely a kidney stone but I never had any other issues with pain or felt like I passed a stone. I have from that day on however, had a constant pressure from my right side just under the ribs, feels like a softball stuck in there. It comes and goes, sometimes feels like it isn't there anymore but flares up again. I had a CT scan and Ultrasound, both negative. Finally had a HIDA scan and found that my gallbladder is only functioning at 19%. I have to wait a month for surgery due to work, is there anything that anyone has heard of for possibly improving gallbladder funtion that I can try this next month? All help appreciated.

Yeah, topgun, stay away from greasy foods..........period, and drink a ton of water. It'll suck, but trust me, I had a gall bladder packed with about 12 stones, actually had one pass through the bile duct to my stomach, super painful, but then massive relief when it made it on through. Thought I was dealing with an ulcer, so did my doc, as I was in the middle of getting my MBA with 2 little kids and a wife to support, figured it'd get better once I was done................wrong. Had a big pulled pork barbeque supper one night and that did it, by the end of the week I had to have surgery.

Been all good since they took it out. The doc did prescribe prevacid at that time, which is now OTC. Really didn't have any more major issues till that BBQ/Gall bladder collision.

Pulled pork started my gallbladder trouble too. Being over weight and poor eating habits is most of the problem however after 3 attacks and twice in the ER with sweat pooring off me I decided to have mine out. That was about 3 years ago. Simple operation. Probably didn't last an hour and I was back home a few hours later. The nice thing about it is no more pain no matter what I eat. The bad side of it is many foods like fats or greasy things causes a bile dump which acts like a super laxative. If I'm going to be traveling or if I'm headed out for a match then I have to eat "safe" foods and sometimes no foods are safe. Some people don't have any trouble with not having a gallbladder and some do. If I had it to do all over again I'd still have it out. Gallbladder attacks are very painful.

Personally, Id just tell it to shape the fuck up or get the fuck out. No freeloaders. ....

Just kidding. A quick google search under herbal treatments for gall bladder yielded a bunch...

Cleanse Drops contain a rare and potent herb extract from Peru called Chanca Piedra which literally means “Stone Breaker”. In clinical research over the years, the plant has demonstrated antilithic (expelling stones) uses as well as liver protection, pain relief and lowering cholesterol. Since the 1960’s there has been over 300 scientific studies published on Chanca Piedra and it's magical health benefits.

What matters to us is that it allows Gallstones sufferers to dissolve and pass their stones quickly and easily. As literally thousands already know.

I cant speak for this stuff but I was needing a prostate operation and started using Saw Palmetto and it cleared things right up. Do some research. It beats getting cut on, even if gub'mint insurance picks up the tab. Then change diet as well.

I had mine pulled a few years back. I was worried too after it happened. My doctor said even if you were able to get rid of the stones your body would make more. That shit hurt like hell. No blood but my pain was in my back on both sides and lasted hours. Being a stubborn irish fuck I dealt with it. I got mine removed about a month later. The doctor told me the 3 F's. Normally its fat, forty and female. I was 32, lift everyday, super healthy and pretty ripped. It took me a long time before my body adjusted after the surgery. Others I spoke to never had an issue. Good luck

The thing is they didn't see any stones on the ultrasound. The Dr. said its inflammation. When I had the attack, I had just finished a salad. I'm 43 and unfortunately haven't always ate healthy. I'll check out the herbal remedies Maggot, thanks.

Had the same symptoms off and on for a number of years. I could always "walk it off" in an hour or so and never thought about getting checked out. Back in April I had an episode I couldn't shake. Wife finally took me to the ER and after the usual questions they thought I had a kidney stone (had one about nine years ago). Sent me home with pain meds and directions to drink lots of water. Two days later I'm back again. The same doc has a skeptical attitude, but goes through the motions and ordered some test that required me to drink a quart of dye. They didn't see anything on the test, so off I go back home about 0400.

I woke about 0800 and checked my phone. There is a message from the ER to call right away. I called and was told to return immediately and not to eat or drink anything. As soon as I arrived, the medics took me back to a bed and started an IV. About 30 minutes later a Colonel came by and told me he needed to remove my gallbladder as soon as an OR was available. Apparently, certain test results are sent to Travis AFB for review. A few hours later I was in recovery. They kept me for three days because my billyruben (?) was high. Looks like I was stabbed five times.

Oh, yeah. I found the flare ups most often happened after eating. Usually a moderate to large meal.

I had my gallbladder removed as well, but not before a gall stone lodged in a duct and turned into gangrene, literally eating my insides up, lost half my pancreas, got Cedef infection in my large intestine, Docs removed that as well. Spent 5 months with an illestomy bag taped to my stomach letting runny shit bag up( so damn fun dealing with that). Then the Docs ran my small intestine as the main plumbing pipeline( it works great!). Long recovery time, lots of awesome moriphine metered out with a little click plunger.

6 months before that a doc told me to have my gallbladder removed soon. Yeah right, to busy. Ignored the pain that felt
Like a bowling ball was crushing my guts, ate fucking tums like m&m's.

Don't miss my gallbladder, large intestine,or half-pancreas that much, did pick up type 2 diabetes as a side effect of the missing pancreas piece.

I am not fat or out of shape, never have been. Don't sweat the gallbladder, get it gone.

Yeah I didn't mention that several years before my gallbladder attacks started my wife had two. Didn't know what was going on and she didn't want to go the ER so we rode the first one out. Second one I took her to the ER and the kept her on morphine until the following Tuesday before they could operate. After the surgery she wasn't getting better and it turns out that one of the stones got lodged in her duct work between her gallbladder and pancreas and she developed a sudo cyst on the pancreas. Like jrassy she lost most of her pancreas which made her an insulin dependent diabetic plus spent 5 months in and out of the hospital and we nearly lost her to Mersa and then later Strep. When my gallbladder attacks started we knew what was going on and what could possibly happen.
I have to be careful what I eat now if I'm traveling but other than that I don't miss mine.

Thanks for all the info, my wife had hers out 2 months ago but her symptoms were totally different. Acute stomach pain and couldn't eat or even drink much. Dr. told her that hers was diseased and they took hers out within 3 days of the diagnosis. I can eat whatever I want just doesn't digest well, I always feel full. Since I work in the oil field and will be leaving soon, he said it could wait till I get back just to watch what and how much I eat, which I need to do anyway. Nothing like forced rationing.

I had severe pain similar to yours about 3 years ago. They wanted to take the gallbladder out. I decided to try a change of diet in order to dissolve the stones (cholesterol) that had filled the bladder. I stopped all oil, grease and fat for one year. They checked my gall bladder and found that it was completely healthy and the stones had disappeared. If during the year, any problems occurred, I would have the doctor remove it, but the diet worked. From birth until age 62, cholesterol registered very low in my blood, but it was all going to the gallbladder. If you have the desire to try a change of diet and have medical care readily available, it might be worth a try in order to preserve the organ you were born with.

Thats what I'm hoping to do over the next month at work Leadshooter, eliminate fatty, greasy foods and sugars. Over the last 3 days since seeing the Dr. about the results of my HIDA scan, I have done this and it is helping, pressure is not nearly as noticeable. Limiting how much I eat has helped as well. I have never had any kind of procedure where I have been knocked out and have all my parts I was born with and hope to stay that way.

I've been putting up with this off and on thing for about 8-9 years. Docs call it "sludge" instead of stones. Always occurrs after 2 bad meals in a row. I can get by with poor eating one time but too much in a short period will send me off. I will probably end up having mine removed in the future. Eat lots of fiber, grains, fruit, etc. you know the drill! Just hard to do.

Educate yourself, don't just trust a doctor's word. That goes for any illness.

Bile breaks down fat into smaller absorbable pieces. Fatty meals require more bile. With a compromised Gallbladder it causes irritation. In my wife's case she had less than 11% function. We monitored it, and ultimately had to take it out. I sure as hell didn't let it go without a fight. In the end based on research and test it had to go.
