I'm considering the Mark 6 in 3-18 power for a precision rifle. There are none around for me to check out, so I thought I'd ask for opinions here.

I have a VX-R Patrol (w/TMR) on my 7mm-08 AI hunting rifle and love it. It's lightweight and easy to get behind quickly. Oh, did I mention I really like how little it weighs! The reticle works well for me on hunts, because it's not too busy. Having mil turrets keeps my dope straight in my head -no conversion when dialing - and the illumination is a nice to have feature. Holdovers are doable, but more time and effort than I would like. Ranging is not practical in my opinion.

Primary use of the Mark 6 w/TMR would be hunting, but I would also punch paper at 500 - 1000 yards. Would holdovers and adjusting/dialing POI be easier and quicker with the Mark 6 version of TMR? Easier ranging would be nice also, but not absolutely required.

I have been very close to buying one… They are super compact and light weight for the magnification range and features you get. I think it would be excellent on a hunting rifle. The only reason I haven't gotten one yet is that I still want a nice compact USO… Those leupolds have not been out in the wild very long yet, so I have not seen many reports on them really. I always hate to buy things early on before there is time to see if there are any bugs QC missed.

From what I have seen the reticle looks just fine. It if FFP, so that will make ranging much better than the VXR you are used to. The reticle will be usable at any magnification that you would be needing it. I doubt you'd be taking a 300 yard shot with the power on 4x, where the reticle will be a bit small for ranging etc. FFP scopes have pretty much displaced every SFP scope I have. I am a holdover guy, so it is much more convenient to not have to worry about the magnification being right. If you are a dialer then the SFP might not be so bad

The only major gripe I hear is that the elevation turret on the mk6 can be a little sloppy since it is a locking design. I am not sure how much of an issue this is though since I have not gotten to play with one. There is a low profile setup that is supposed to be much much better. Lowlight did a review on it if you search it out. I believe the price is quite a bit higher if you go that route.

I'm not familiar with the other versions of the TMR reticle, but holdovers and POA/POI corrections are easy enough with my 3-18 Mk6. Below about 6x the reticle is pretty thin and the subtensions are pretty much not useable. However, from 6x to 18x it's game on.

As was said above, the only real complaint with the Mk6 is the elevation turret adjustments. "Sloppy" is a good term. Nonetheless, it's workable and still a very good scope. I got a non-illuminated TMR version for $1900 and I'm happy for the money spent. 3-18x FFP mil/mil with good glass, works for me.

The "tmr" in the patrol scopes are no where near as good as the real TMR in the MK6. I agree with everything that Ledzep said about it.

The patrol tmr hash marks are not easily distinguishable because of their similar size. The MK6 TMR is very easy to read. I sold my MK AR(it uses the same reticle as the patrol) because of the reticle.
