I bring it up because here in Delaware up north in Wilmington they are trying out the new camera system. The officers wear a camera on there chest I think and every thing is recorded. I don't believe all cops are bad guys I just have to wonder if this camera thing will real reduce bad behavior

This week or last week I saw an article about 3 OH LEOs who got into a scrap with an emotionally-troubled teenager. I'm not sure of the details, but the the article said the kid went for one of their guns in the scrap. Anyway, one of the officers was caught on dash cam saying something like "we will sort you out when we get back to the jailhouse" except it was more sinister and in cop lingo which I don't recall.
They end up finding the kid hung from the sprinkler head in his jail cell. The investigators determined that there was no possible way the kid could have reached the sprinkler head to hang himself.
The officers were indicted on murder charges.

Found the article. It looks like it wasn't an emotionally troubled teenager, but a lifetime screwup with face tattoos, who was attempting to break out of jail. There was no dashcam and although the death was declared a homicide, I'm not sure if anyone has been charged.

This seems like it is political, not allowed on this board guys! We have a lot of LEO on this board, you can bet None of them would ever be involved in anything like this. You may want to delete this entire thing, I'd hate to see any of you guys get the ban hammer over this.
So wondering if public servants should be required to wear video cameras to try and cut down on poor behavior is political? No it's an accountability topic.

It is a shame there are no video clips of the good things officers do everyday.
I assume I am being video taped every time I contact anyone, but it doesn't stop me from doing what needs to be done. Obviously these videos are extremes of cops behaving inappropriately, but lets remember this, almost all uses of force appear to be excessive. Punching someone, grounding someone, using a baton or shooting someone are violent acts, having a camera on will not lessen the appearance of that. Body cameras will be standard issue within the coming years, but even that won't stop there from being bad apples.

There are plenty of videos of cops doing positive but there is a core of anti government, anti authority members here who would rather focus on the negative aspects of the job rather then the positive. Some just post shit to be trolls and get reactions out of people. That and the fact that the negative shit sells more papers and generates more controversy. Personally I watched the video in the OP and about half of the clips in it, I found nothing wrong with. For instance the opening segment where the K9 officer shoots the guy in LA. Looked like to me that the perp had a blunt or edged weapon in his hand and was about to strike one of the officers on scene with it. Other clips where perps were refusing to be handcuffed or actively fighting and they were struck with batons, nothing wrong with that.
On the flip side, beating down someone who just got ejected from a car and is unconscious is way over the top. Obviously more cameras aren't the solution. These officers had dashcams and camera's in the back seats of their cars and that didn't stop them from pummeling suspects that were handcuffed.

Beware of these anti-government, anti-authority members. They are known to cause sedition and be ungrateful for the efforts of their betters knowing what's good for them.
Your problem, and one that is shared by many in your profession, is that you take criticism of your actions as being motivated by 'anarchy' as though you represent some higher form of order and to question it implies a lust for chaos and murder. You are NOT an authority, you are enforcement. There's a difference and the fact that you don't know it, is telling.
I don't agree with the romantic notion of 'one bad apple' and that 99.99% are wonderful. For one bad apple to persist up to the point where he is taken to task only because of third party footage suggest the so-called wonderful 99.99% allowed it to go on.
What you call 'way over the top' is attempted murder or at the least, assault and your choice of diluted language shows your bias. You called people savages and advocated for them to shot on sight when people showed videos of the knock out game (with which I agree) but when we see police doing essentially the same and in the case of the unconscious man, much much worse, we don't hear the same 'passion' from you or others.
The hypocrisy and double standard, is why there is deterioration between police and community. You and others like you are allowing the thugs amongst you to exist while whining you don't get enough applause for the things you do right.

The issue is not about black America or white America. It IS about law enforcement going beyond the scope of enforcing the law, which is THEIR ONLY JOB. They do not(nor do you and I have the constitutional rights to) protect, nor do they serve. That is a myth as outlined in several appeals and higher court readings. The scope of law enforcement is exactly that. If they see the law being broken, they enforce it. If they know of laws being broken, they investigate and enforce the law.
The problem we see in these types of videos is the public allowing this kind of behavior to go on. No one has the sac to step in and do the right thing to stop[ it, but damn they sure will film the hell out of it if it looks unjust. The same goes for good cop videos, no one really cares about those. The reason we have this behavior within our society is due to the breakdown in societal rules and maladjusted behavior rising to the level where it is now, and continuing to rise.
The only cure for this is to insure we have solid oversight on police actions, but at the same time we bring our society back to a normal, well mannered and ruled society. Without this, we will see the same things over and over, until there comes a time when there will be small actions of Police vs Citizens until something a lot larger happens and all hell breaks loose.
The bottom line is that some LEO overstep given bounds and as such are still only that small 1%-10% population distribution of Police. At the same time, there is that equivalent 1%- 10% of criminal citizens that will always resist or make the LEO escalate force into a situation where it goes out of control

I would say out of the thousands or ten of thousands of interactions law enforcement with people every day without incident and a the amount of videos that surface I'd say it's a 'few bad apples'.

I don't think the general public is interested in videos of LEO doing good deeds or performing their job in a stellar manner. That is what they are paid for, and what the public requires and expects from them.
We are ,however, interested in poor performance of their duties, and how it is handled from their authorities.

I was, BY GOD , brought up to respect a peace officer.
90 % of Americans have no respect for politicians, Congress' approval rating is at n all time low. King Georges approval rating right before the Revolutionary War was higher than Congress' approval rating is now.
If a majority of Americans have no respect for the politicians that write the laws. (or pretend to for their Corporate backers) .. Why would Americans respect the people that are law enforcement ?

My simple complaint is the broad brush that is used to paint law enforcement in general. There are bad apples everywhere. No one said it is 1%, or 10%. There are cops who routinely go criminal in their behavior.
My bigger point is easily made using an example- It is safe to say that all of us here are gun enthusiasts and gun owners. Few if any of us will ever use our guns violently and an even smaller amount will use them criminally. How outraged do we feel when an Aurora, or Newtown, or Columbine, a tragedy conducted not by the mainstream gun owners but the extreme fringe, brings out the broad brush of all gun owners being blood thirsty potential child killing psychopaths? We are outraged by the behavior and frustrated by the lumping together of millions of law abiding gun owners to the actions of a few criminals.
This is how I feel about issues such as this video brings up. These videos don't represent even a small minority of officers who work the streets every day.

About as boring as seeing a video of me shovelling my neighbour's driveway. We do nice by eachother because that's who we are. I would much rather be shocked and angered by acts of barbarism such as some of what was in that video than acts of regular kindness and consideration. Wouldn't you?

I'd like to think that, in the grand balance of things, we're all here because we'd like to save lives, not see them taken, and that we'd like to improve the human condition, not worsen it. Hopefully, those bent to the task of responding first are so attuned.
I am by no means an anti establishment person..I have all the respect in the world for the officers and troops that that lace up there boots and head out into the trenches every day. Growing up I did not have a father and a State trooper kind of took on that role for me he got me into shooting. I competed in pistol matches with him he was one of the best men I had ever had the pleasure of knowing. Like every thing in this world there is Exceptional, good, average, poor, and scum of the earth.... The Exceptional, good, and average are tarnished by the rest So many good things happen every day both buy ordinary people and paid professionals and what really suck is you rarely hear about it. the news just reports the bad rarely if ever does good news make the top story. I personally have such contempt for the poor, and scum of the earth BECAUSE! I have so much respect for those that go above and beyond. Accountability is always a topic here and in every day life. I find it sad that it may come to wearing chest cams because of the poor behavior of some. The real problem is accountability is a rare thing in life any more, Honor is another rarity. Officer should be paid more and be held to a higher standard. you know the saying with power comes great responsibility..
