I'm patiently waiting for C. Dixon's Winchester group buy. I have a 1985 Win 70 featherweight, long action, one tight ass stock, I can't free it up. It's never been apart, never was free floating either, and I want to salvage the stock, nice shape and should bring a c-note when sold.
Any ideas?

Back out action screws 4-5 turns, tap with plastic mallet, while inserting wood wedge under barrel. Hope nobody tried to epoxy bed this, with no release coating. Repeat above after stashing gun in freezer overnight, if no luck.

Thanks hedspace, thought of the hammer trick right after I posted, I guess the barrels destined for the trash can anyway. I don't think there's even 60 rounds through the gun, just tough to do???

Miles try this.

curl your hand around the barrel. Thumb on the for end of the stock. Have the bolt in the gun but out of battery and at full ejection length.

curl fingers around bolt body with thumb on back of tang.

lift straight up. Don't rock it.

I don't like the old hammer trick on the screws only cause I've seen guys deform threads if they aren't careful. We both know your luck.... :)

Thanks Chad, wasn't about to hammer on action screws. The barrel looked inviting though!

It's funny how a guy doesn't want to ruin any parts of this 350.00 rifle, but didn't bat an eye walking away from that McMillan stock that I had over 1400.00 in to.

If I can't get it, I'll turn it over to you. New NF scope showed up yesterday, bm here shortly, we really, really, really need to get started on this Win group buy!!!!!
