Well, like Ruth Bader Ginsberg with her SCOTUS seat, he was holding his Senate seat hostage until he died, so it's time to go.
So that's what it took to get rid of a deep state traitor.....
So do they run special elections or wait til the midterms? I don't even know if his seat is up this term. Say what you will, he was a soldier who served the best he could and he seemed like a decent family man as well. Too bad his political legacy tainted everything positive that he did.
I believe he has 4 years left on his term. In most states the Governor appoints a replacement until a Special Election can be held (soonest for AZ wold be 2019).
His family will miss him.

Overall, he sided with the Democrats as much as with the Republicans, and did so in some very critical votes, Obamacare being the most notorious. It was his vote against repealing it that killed the effort to completely get rid of it.
But before that, his kid glove handling of Obama during the election is the reason he lost, and we had Obama to begin with. The very next time he defended his senate seat in Arizona a year or two later, he ran an extremely dirty ad hominem campaign and absolutely destroyed J.D. Hayworth. So, he was willing to destroy to keep his senate seat, but didn't want to be the candidate to talk bad about the "black guy".
I hope that motherfucker gets flaming pineapple suppositories for eternity.

If someone does evil things, you can make all the excuses you want about how nice a person they were, just their politics were wrong, but it doesn't hold up.
Lots of truly evil mass murdering dictators were "very nice people" when you had them over for lunch and sat around petting the dogs & chasing the kids around the yard while enjoying an afternoon cup of tea. Some of them were even decorated patriotic war veterans. But that doesn't give them a pass for all the evil they did, they still go down as evil people.

I had pretty strong disagreements with much of his politics. However, I believe that while he often voted in what I consider an ill advised manner, he did so because he thought it was the right thing to do for the country.
He served honorably in our armed forces while many politicians dodged military service.
While I disagreed with many of his political decisions, I choose to not speak ill of a dead man. He did what he thought was right, just as I do. I suppose in the long run, history (or at least whoever writes that history) will decide which of us was correct.
