Tried to ship a scope via Ups 3rd party store and was refused. Called corporate to ask what was the issue they told me that any part to a gun could not be shipped. This is Ups policy. UPS accepts firearm parts for shipment, provided the part is not a "firearm" as defined under federal law; the contents of the package cannot be assembled to form a firearm; and the package otherwise complies with federal, state, and local law. (Note:Receivers or frames of a firearm and firearm mufflers/silencers (also referred to as suppressors) are considered "firearms" and are accepted for transportation only if shipped in accordance with UPS's requirements for shipping firearms.) I must be missing something????

Yes. Never go to a UPS store. Seriously I’ve had nothing but problems with the UPS stores. Even the main hub is a pain in the ass sometimes to if no one knows what they are doing. Even though it’s a pain in the ass it saves time going to the hub. Now here they want to see what you are shipping before it gets sealed up. FedEx is never an issue just more expensive

That's total BS. We ship scopes with UPS every day. I'm not saying it's BS what you're saying, I'm saying UPS will accept riflescopes. Most of our vendors that only sell sports optics, including riflescopes, ship with UPS

UPS stores won't shipped ammo or any gun parts but if you take them to an actual UPS shipping location and not one of the franchise owned "mailbox" stores you should be golden.

Agreed. Here is what they told me only by Ups store corporate. " We have internal rules that apply that are not posted to the public " " If you ship a scope and it can be attached to a gun we can confiscate it" These people r crazy bias against gun ownership is what I got from the whole experience.

Went to usps was a breeze. I will not use Ups for any reason I do not like prejudice companies....

That's great I'm glad u had a good experience
Sorry to add to that I believe the store owner can make up his own set of rules. I had some time today to get to the bottom of it all. I have yet to other than a bunch of run around. Just wanted to put it out there. I am also a ffl/Sot I told them I would happily give my ffl to them and still denied. What a joke of a company.

If the ups stores won't ship firearm parts, does that mean they won't ship screws, springs and pins too?
I refuse to use the so called ups stores. I'll take my business elsewhere.
For normal legal shipments, I can have a buddy that owns a business make ups pick my items up for me....
Just sayin

A few of months ago I was at a UPS store to ship several parts to a friend in Colorado. When I was told that "gun parts" cannot be shipped, I promptly and gladly shared they were for an urban art project helping address the impact of violence. They immediately shipped my items.

:oops::giggle:
Wow. I had plenty of time today to research and find out what is going on. I have found out that most Ups stores will ship "gun parts" it does not to seem to b policy just individual store owners. I cannot believe they r able to do what they want based off whatever they want to do.

Ive had several problems with various store fronts of several shipping companies... the bottom line usually is that the company will ship what ever you want. The individual you happen to be talking with is just an idiot and rejects anything firearm related.

The moment you mention any trigger words such as; trigger, assult rifle, gun, firearm, powder, primers, pistol grip, flash hider, telescoping stock and apparently scope, its all over.

Anything firearms related i just tell them the box contains “tools for precision work”... i mean, its not a lie.

Exactly also will not accept my ffl for " gun parts" lol.

Exactly I hate to beat a dead horse but man.

As others have said...

- “Machined parts”
- “Sporting Goods”
- “Telescopes”

All work well without issue. I always use USPS for shipping stuff because it seems to be cheaper, faster, and less hassle, but I never had any issue with UPS or FedEx either.

I'm just frustrated with the bias. Post a big sign that says we dont deal with anything gun related done.
Quit being a drama queen and become an educated customer.

Go to the UPS website and read what UPS Stores (which are NOT owned by UPS) will and will not ship. Then use the same website to learn how UPS itself will ship firearms and firearm parts.

And before you ask, no I'm not going to look any of it up for you.

I recently had a similar issue at a UPS store. They wouldn't ship a barrel that wasn't attached to anything. I tried politely explaining it was just a metal tube and she absolutely refused to ship it. I know UPS ships firearm related items all the time...they're the ones that delivered the barrel to me when I originally got it. As well as hundreds of other parts and ACTUAL firearms I've purchased in the past. I tried to get in touch with customer service but sat on hold and noone ever picked up. But according to the guy that first picked up the phone if you go to The UPS Store they're supposed to follow UPS policy and procedure.

3rd party store

That's the key.

They have little to nothing to do with the "real UPS" and run by their own rules. I have a hard time getting 3rd party UPS places to take my companies UPS number to ship things.

Machine parts, telescopes, plastic handles. You have to get creative with 3rd party UPS places to take stuff.
This. Go to a UPS Customer Service Center - they will ship it. Or ship it via USPS priority.

Also with Fedex I schedule pickups. 2 bucks usually. Come directly to your house and can/will pick up ammo, firearms, or whatever. Same as driving down to the Hub. The drivers have never asked me whats in the box, ever. And I just had 200lbs of ammo picked up for shipment last week. I helped the guy load it up and no question was even asked.

I was at UPS here in my area 2 weeks ago and I used a box that said midway USA on it. Guy said you cant re-use those boxes. I asked him, why is that? He replied, they ship ammo and other dangerous goods in those boxes and the residual "fumes" or "powder", can and will explode upon shipping in those boxes. I just started laughing. He didn't think that was funny and wouldn't take my package. Even though I was shipping a pair of binoculars.

Look at the original post I have done research this is a store owners discretion. But thanks for chiming in.

Find another way to ship. That part is in your control. No need for the political undertones.
Yes I'm not a keyboard warrior and not talking down to anyone just

You are right and that's what I did no big deal just sharing my experience.

I have shipped pistols for warranty work UPS. When they ask I just say machined parts. Go to the actual UPS facility. Stay away from the franchise store. They don't know shit. I've also shipped a SKS barreled action via the USPS. This time though I knew it was fine but the clerk freaked so I said bring out the post master. All he asked was is there ammo in the box I said no and he said fine.
