Rifle Scopes UPS will not ship a scope

I have shipped pistols for warranty work UPS. When they ask I just say machined parts. Go to the actual UPS facility. Stay away from the franchise store. They don't know shit. I've also shipped a SKS barreled action via the USPS. This time though I knew it was fine but the clerk freaked so I said bring out the post master. All he asked was is there ammo in the box I said no and he said fine.
This. In all fields or work there will be misinformed or just plain lazy employees who don't want to take ownership of doing their job for fear of liability. We'd hope that with each incident an uneducated/unsure employee will walk away that much smarter, more knowledgeable and able to do their job. Know your shit... it's really that easy.

Further more maybe I'm a drama queen but if u would like I can happily provide you with the telephone number so u can ask yourself. I really dont care if someone refuses service to me its America you are allowed to do that but post a sign or some sh*t.
Bullshit. I've shipped entire fucking rifles and shotguns via UPS, both to gunsmiths and to FFLs for transfer to a buyer, without a single incident.

I don't need any phone number from you. I know what I'm doing and I can tell you do not.

Yeah they are stupid

Sorry u feel this way I'm not sure why you r upset. And I am talking about a Ups store. Not a Ups hub. Totally different. A 3rd party store cannot ship title 1 firearms. Sorry you r fired up have a great night sir.

LMT sent me an RMA to check out a rifle I was having issues with.

I packed up my MWS.

Brought it to UPS.

The guy behind the counter asked if it was a gun.

I told him it was a rifle.

He said "Good we will expedite it with signatures the whole way"

Put my rifle on the conveyor than UPS returned it about a week later.

This is the rule from: guy who doesnt know what he is doing. Cartridges, small arms are not accepted for shipment via UPS Drop Boxes, and may not be tendered to or dropped off at locations of The UPS Store® or any third party retailer or UPS Access Point™ location

I live in CA. When I ship a scope and they ask me what it is, it’s a telescope. When I ship a... let’s say upper receiver... I tell them it’s a steel tube wrapped in aluminum. :p
Yeah I was the fool for not boxing it up and just saying that. I receive suppressors from Ups but not knowing the store is different from a hub well guess joke was on me lol

Oh I should add, far as I know, if you don’t ship the scope through a hub, it’s not actually insured.
Could be I will use a different outlet done deal I like to hear all the different stories it's crazy how different 3rd party stores act differently then another 3rd party store some are cool with ot and some r not

I recently had a similar issue at a UPS store. They wouldn't ship a barrel that wasn't attached to anything. I tried politely explaining it was just a metal tube and she absolutely refused to ship it. I know UPS ships firearm related items all the time...they're the ones that delivered the barrel to me when I originally got it. As well as hundreds of other parts and ACTUAL firearms I've purchased in the past. I tried to get in touch with customer service but sat on hold and noone ever picked up. But according to the guy that first picked up the phone if you go to The UPS Store they're supposed to follow UPS policy and procedure.
Yeah supposed too lol

Just tell them you are shipping an optic for a government backed wildlife research project.

Optic=Hunting Rifle Scope
Government Backed=Hunting License
Wildlife Research Project= What taste better a Buck or a Doe?
Well when I spoke with ups store corporate she told I could ship it if it were a paint ball scope. So I said ok then I will just tell the ups store its paint ball scope she said well if u miss classify the scope we can confiscate it. I could not believe it I started laughing and ask how would u know

Tried to ship a scope via Ups 3rd party store and was refused. Called corporate to ask what was the issue they told me that any part to a gun could not be shipped. This is Ups policy. UPS accepts firearm parts for shipment, provided the part is not a "firearm" as defined under federal law; the contents of the package cannot be assembled to form a firearm; and the package otherwise complies with federal, state, and local law. (Note:Receivers or frames of a firearm and firearm mufflers/silencers (also referred to as suppressors) are considered "firearms" and are accepted for transportation only if shipped in accordance with UPS's requirements for shipping firearms.) I must be missing something????

How did they know what you were shipping?
3rd party stores are not UPS. I have shipped complete rifles to an FFL through UPS but not at a 3rd party store.

I couldn't believe I was speaking to a Customer service representative. A big waste of time should have just walked away and went down the road.

Just found out a week ago even if u have a ffl a 3rd party is not supposed to ship title 1 firearms I told the representatives at the 3rd party store I will b glad to provide my ffl/sot and they said 3rd parties cannot ship anything gun related. But that is only half true they r just not supposed to ship title 1 firearms.

I had the same experience as the OP. UPS store wouldn't ship a scope because it was "a gun part". Post office had no issue with it though!
I also posted a scope and mount on ebay this week and it was rejected because I used the words "AR style" in describling the mount. Dumb dumb dumb.

Yeah watch those trigger words as described above.

I shipped my Deviant action from the local UPS store (in San Francisco) back to Bugholes after doing the DROS at my LGS. When they asked me what it was, I told them. They said they couldn’t ship it. I then said, “I’m sorry, that was a mistake. It’s a pecisely machined and polished piece of stainless steel“, and they shipped it.

Nice how do you like that action saw them at shot 2018 one of the nicest actions I have messed with.

Some asshole from UPS keeps stealing my powder and primer shipments, it always makes it to one certain stop and then disappears, probably some damn liberal terrorist. Luckily Midsouth shooters supply resends without any hassles.

I tried, but they just brush me off with "All delivery issues must be reported by the shipper", hopefully Midsouth is tired of filing claims and has complained to their corporate office. That being said if UPS has to keep paying for these shipments going missing at the same depot i'm almost certain they will look into it, I know they have to have a loss prevention department.

The fact that third party stores can make up any rules about firearms seems to me to be grounds for a lawsuit (14th Amendment, equal protection clause for the 2nd Amendment). Just saying, a lawsuit against a single third party store would probably change all the 3rd party store's stances. You can't/shouldn't be able to discriminate providing a service to someone specifically because you don't like what they're shipping.

Went to usps was a breeze. I will not use Ups for any reason I do not like prejudice companies....
Sorry to add to that I believe the store owner can make up his own set of rules. I had some time today to get to the bottom of it all. I have yet to other than a bunch of run around. Just wanted to put it out there. I am also a ffl/Sot I told them I would happily give my ffl to them and still denied. What a joke of a company.
