Nope, it is past tense and they are referring to their mission. It is correct in "...we were..." otherwise it would read "...we we're..."

Please don't capitalize "governor" when you're referring to that twat. I believe 'he' prefers faggovernor anyway.
I can't begin to tell you how many times dudes would use their rifle as a pry bar to solve this... Memories.
Technically it’s not “their” rifle. Had to give it back to the armored. We beat the crap out of those rifles, especially the 20”s. Never failed to bang the barrel in to every door frame I walked through. Who needed a rubber mallet when youn had a butt stroke handy. All in all I am impressed with the abuse they took and that they still shot accurately enough to hit targets at 300m.
