Had a discussion with Rebecca at lunch about this very thing.
Humans evolved/survived by learning to cultivate grains.
We were never built to ingest the high levels of processed grains and sugars.
Our bodies naturally convert proteins, fats, vegetables and natural sugars into energy.
Processed grains and sugars are fucking us up.
I've been weaning myself off of the shit foods, but will still give in to a bowl of icecream here and there. Coca-Cola is my downfall.
Had a class recently and our work has appointed a guy as "the health guru" trying to get us to be healthier.
He made a great point regards carbohydrates and the way human evolution has determined how we eat them.
First it varies by location you evolved from.
An Inuit cant even spell carb while someone in a an equatorial region may have evolved fine to live off sugar cane and rice.
Temperate region people though.....
There evolution is generally based on "feast and famine".
Carbs are a 3-4 months out of the year possibility. The other 8-9 months its meat and thats it.
We took the class in early April and his point made was go into the woods outside this classroom and find an abundacne of carbs to eat.
Its not there.
Sure technology, root cellars and pickling have allowed us once settled to have a source of winter carbohydrates but its only recently that it has been processed "mainlining" carbs without fiber and hard work to balance things out.
If you switch over to fat burning you will find the energy level stays more stable through the day.
I do indulge in a treat everyone once in awhile but its infrequent and Im better to limit it.
Right now carbs make me feel like shit if I over indulge.
For treats fresh berries and home made whip cream flavored with pure vanilla can do the trick. A handful of salted mixed nuts with buttery macadamias, almonds, cashews, Brazil nuts, walnuts id as good as eating a Sundae to me.
Sounds weird but once you get over the shit food its not missed so much. Sure the warm artisan bread brought to the restaurant table has its appeal but I know Im a lot better off without it.
If you can get the better half to join you in doing it its much easier. My wife is on board with me and we both eat like royalty.
