Talk me out of a 457 Varmint

I have a 455 and 457, both have been amazing rifles. The only thing I would consider changing is the stock, because with any good size scope the cheek weld issue can arise. Both of mine are in the Manners and it is a hard combo to beat. The Boyd adjustable at one stock also has the adjustable cheek piece. Just a thought!

If it doesn't give trouble, that stock is one of the reasons I want that rifle. Based on looks, hope function is acceptable. Unless I do some moving around, I'll probably put a strap on cheek riser on the stock and mount a SWFA 5-25 scope. I'd rather a ~40 Obj scope, but that's what I have on hand.

Rifle will mostly be used for shooting rocks, walnuts, beer cans, crows and some paper.

I would go with what you like! I would try to mount the scope as low as possible and you should be okay. Worse case a cheek pad or riser. Wood stocks still look great to me!

I love my 457. Put a simple cheek pack on it to raise the height. This a great one for about $35. The pouch is great for the bolt, spare mags, etc.

Any Tikka reps have about ten min to change my mind. LOL Already signed into bud's and a 457 in the queue.

No. I have both. The magazines are better on the CZ and the 457 is a nice rifle for the money. Unless you're saving for a Vudoo, I'd say get a CZ… preferable a MTR.

Mine started out as a CZ 457 Varmint. Great gun for the price and you have the ability to upgrade as much as you want. You won’t be disappointed with it.
This was when it was a stock CZ Varmint.

But has morphed into what it is now.

About to get a 457 varmint. Any reason I should go a different direction?
The CZ 457 is clearly too fine a rifle for the mouth-breather likes of you. If you require velcro to fasten your shoes as an adult, you shouldn't own this rifle. Stick to the window-lickers favorites and you should be fine.

Have I talked you out of it?

Seriously, the 457s are great rifles. I bought one less than a month after buying a 455. Still really like mine almost a year later. Good trigger, good accuracy, lots of available upgrades with more being developed. If you want it just get it.

So you're saying I should get a 10-22 dressed up in TAPCO?

Honestly the 457 varmint with the new KRG Bravo (when they start shipping) is a pretty sweet rig. I have the VPT and am thinking about swapping out the Manners stock for the Bravo just because the Bravo has the adjustable comb. I have this really nice rifle and either need to spend just shy of $300 to have a KMW loggerhead installed, or I have to live with my mouth-breather DIY enhancement (see pic below). Really makes the Bravo an attractive option.

I love this rifle. I just got the scope mounted and will be shooting it hopefully very soon.

So the answer is yes. Buy now!

I bought a 457 last month. Decided to go with 22WMR so when I put a high end 22lr bbl on it I'll also have still have option to swap back to 22WMR vs a useless 22lr bbl collecting dust/trying to sell. Already have some 22lr mags so just had to get the magwell spacer/pin. Best price I could find at the time was Dahlonega Armory but not sure if that's still the case.

I considered getting a 22mag or .17 and getting a good lr barrel made up, possibly the current group buy sendero profile. I'm wishing I would have now. I may get another chance. If my dad will actually shoot it, I'll probably end up giving this one to him after getting it set up.
