I was working security at big outdoor concert in 1979/1980 (?) and we walked the parking lots at night with the Sheriffs, lots of drugs on the scene. Well the concert weekend that featured him had drugs 10x in the lots. Seeing how messed up all the other acts were I was expecting him to be DOA. My job was escorting the bands to the stage or from the helicopter pad and hanging back stage with them. When we went to get Ted I was unprepared for what I saw. He jumped out and extended his hand, I was a little a shocked. He was talking to us like we were good buddies. Finally I told him that I thought he would be all drugged out and he said never touch the stuff, I'm high on life.
I was in awe of him and his energy and how well spoken he was. Met him at the SHOT one year and he said glad to meet you and I told him that I met him before and still thought he was the man.
Not sure I would believe anything negative I read about him, not like the far left wouldn't want to burn him or have it verified in snopes.

Actually ole Ted got a college deferment.

Now he told some magazine years ago, and did several interviews that he did shit himself, not bathe, not shave....bla bla bla. This was popular to the crowd he was talking to and popular at the time in american culture.

1975 was not the same as today in the terms of vets, or the military. If you plucked someone out of 1975 and said guess what in 2019 people would be pretending to be vets, wearing the uniform in public having never actually been in the military and they do this because there is a great respect for those that served and do serve....well that person from 1975 would look at you like you had an arm growing out of your forehead....times they have a changed, just glad my uncle lived to see it.
