Cleaning and abrasives and Fire Lapping

Here is another good one for ya.... Back when we did a ton of R&D barrels for Remington for the MSR rifles I get a phone call out of the blue from one of the engineers. They were down in TX doing testing. Also had military guys there from what I remember. Caliber was 338 Lapua if I remember...

I'm with ya bud and understand! Yes I've been at matches and loaned my rifle when a guy had issues with his. Mechanical issues or scope going sour etc...

Why wait 400-450 rounds in between cleanings? Not poking at ya just asking. Yes a 308win or 223 gun for bore size vs case capacity they are easy on barrels but shoot a magnum round or a 6.5x284 or 6CM etc... your asking for problems. Keep in mind as the barrel wears and the bore is getting...

Liquid or paste guys.... it can and will cause problems. You have to be careful! Witch's brew is in a liquid form but has an abrasive in it. One guy wrecked 3 barrels in the span of 6 months. His last barrel was a 6.5mm and with only 110 rounds fired thru it... he took a full .001" out of the...

Again first two inches of rifling in front of the case mouth are gone. Where the lands do start the bore is .2385". Basically at that point a full .0015" was taking out of the bore there.

Cleaning High Performance Rifle Barrels - Video

I just started a new thread about using abrasives and fire lapping etc... Again guys you have to be careful with what your doing. Even in a liquid from an abrasive and using a brush and you can damage the barrel. Later, Frank Bartlein Barrels

Cleaning and abrasives and Fire Lapping

Not sure where to post this so I'm going to post it here in Bolt Action Rifles as well as I'm going to make a post on Accurate Shooter Forum as well. This will probably start an argument but don't know what else to do other than to spell this out in black and white. This has been kicked to...

    .308 Winchester

Ask Mark here. He shoots primarily short range BR. 6ppc guns. Currently holds two or three world records. He only gets 5 firings out of his Lapua brass and he throws it away because the primer pockets are too loose. If I had to put a number guess to the PSI those guys are runnning.... It's 70k +.

    .308 Winchester

I feel Hornady gets a bad rap when it comes to brass. I tell guys this... if your running normal loads and not getting stupid with it... it will shoot just as good or last just as long as anything else. Yes Lapua etc.... You want to stand on the throttle... your in a different ball game all...

In centerfire rifles the saying goes, "bullets, powder and barrel" those three things have to work together. Just because the gun doesn't shoot doesn't mean the bullets or barrel is bad or the powder. It could be one of those or it could be all three not working together causing your issue...

We do reverse muzzle taper barrels. Typically it's like $35 extra for that contour if you want it. I'm going to tell you there is no benefit to it. It was originally done in my opinion for the button rifled barrels so the bore wouldn't get bigger / go sour at the muzzle end when the contoured...

Not the only one with cut rifled barrels. The G&E rifles are also cut rifled. For several years in a row we made them 22RF barrels. I do believe they are making they're own now. They made all of they're own centerfire rifled barrels but where not making the RF on they're own. Nice stick you...
