Gunsmithing cases stick in new barrel

The cases from the old barrel do have a slight bulge where it meets the chamber. Old brass immediately above the extractor groove is .469-.470 in both fired and full length sized cases. The bulge measures about .474 in a fired case and .472 in a sized case. Virgin Hornady brass above the...

Gunsmithing cases stick in new barrel

Got some new brass and that solved the issue, extraction is smoother than butter off a hot biscuit. Probably not worth buying a small base die to salvage my old brass, it’s getting towards the end of its life anyway. Thanks for the help everyone, as this was only my third barrel job on my own I...

You guessed it, zero primary extraction

Gunsmithing cases stick in new barrel

So I repolished the chamber, started with some 400 grit with WD40 and finished it off with some grey scotch brite and got a nice crosshatch pattern. Just got to fire some rounds and was able to extract the first round but it was stiff. The next two got stuck and I had to remove with a cleaning...

Gunsmithing cases stick in new barrel

It’s Hornady brass I’d been using in the previous barrel, this was its 4th firing. Primers looked normal too

Gunsmithing cases stick in new barrel

Not quite a mirror finish but pretty shiny, definitely no crosshatch going on in there. Looks like it's going back on the lathe when I get back to work on Monday. Also, I tried to chamber the cases that had got stuck with the extractor and ejector removed and bolt didn't even want to close on...

Gunsmithing cases stick in new barrel

This is the third barrel I've chambered on my own, first was a 308 and second was a 6creed. This one is a 6creed as well done with the same SAMMI spec reamer as the previous one. Put my first rounds down it today and every one of the cases got stuck in the chamber. They were all a moderate...

do I have a chamber issue?

So I got a bullet comparator and both bullets measure .375 long off the ogive, and the one I'm needing to seat deeper is .02 shorter over length all than the other. Doesn't make any sense to me why I'm needing to seat the one so much deeper in the case than the other

do I have a chamber issue?

The Hornady tech said deeper in the case. So unless I'm seating deep enough to compress the powder, it's actually reducing pressure?

do I have a chamber issue?

Thanks for all the replies, good info. So I measured the bullets and they are .224 diameter and they drop freely into the neck of an unsized case that was fired from this gun. The saami dimension I found for the loaded neck diameter is .253 and my loaded rounds measure .247. Guess I'll be...

do I have a chamber issue?

I have been full length resizing, plus this is brass I had previously fired from this gun just different bullets than I had been using. I was under the impression that since a chamber reamer cuts the full form of the chamber then if the go/nogo gauges checked out than the chamber neck would be...

do I have a chamber issue?

So I'm relatively new to reloading in the grand scheme of things (less than a year), pretty much been going by the Speer manual and just getting comfortable and building confidence in my work. I've mostly been reloading for my Remington 700 in .223 and haven't had any issues till the other day...
