I love 223 in a bolt gun. I shoot 77 and 80smk bullets. I'm running a bighorn origin action with accurate mags and it feeds like butter, never a problem.
I'd definitely go 1:7 twist. Virtually every AR is a 1:7 where the majority of ammo being shot is 55g ball, why go slower for a bolt gun...
Based on posts I've read I also got the impression iba doesn't really do much themselves. I'm pretty sure iba did the clip slot on the originals but I'm not 100% on that. No way ptg did it originally. Guess they sent it to ptg for their half ass clip slot and famous U.S. stamp like on their fake...
Thought I would update this since I've had a couple people ask me and there's very little information out there about these stocks. I ordered the stock mid November and it shipped mid January. I had them ship it to Terry Cross for his loggerhead cheek hardware install. Awesome guy to deal with...
I did end up getting one for ARs because they're pretty available so I figured why not. The cleaning rods definitely stay in better shape when using a guide.
@Frank Green Id like to expand on this a bit and get your opinion on cleaning firearms other than precision rifles.
Milsurp rifles: I have some older mausers, 1903a3 springfield etc. Do you try to find bore guides for these, or just clean from the back and do your best?
AR Rifles: Do you use...
That is a 1903-A3 springfield that someone "sporterized". Originally it would have been in 30-06. Just Google an original 03a3 and you can see what it would've looked like in military configuration.
Wow, really hate to see you leave. You are a wealth of knowledge and have probably the most interesting collection of stuff I've seen. Always look forward to your posts. I wish you the best of luck and thank you for all the information you've shared.
Wow. Sounds like someone really went off the deep end. Is he really just naming everyone he can think of in the industry to try and back up his bullshit?
For every great thing said about a certain optic I can find equally as many people bitching about it. Nightforce, vortex, kahles, zco, s&b, TT, leupold, you name it. Makes it real difficult to choose anything without firsthand experience.
Received my barrel today! Thanks so much for this awesome piece of history! We'll have to talk at some point I'd love to hear anything you know about it. Here it is next to my A4 clone.
