Not a perfect direct comparison but I run an 18” 7prc with a TBAC ultra 5 as a hunting rig and it has PLENTY of muscle for 500 yards. 175 class bullets @2825fps are no joke. I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot elk size game at 1,000 yards with it (not that I would). Long barrels and long cans are...
I did this recently myself. Split bases and NF 4-screw ultralights and it’s a tight fit with zero options for eye relief (although eye relief ended up being perfect with my 13” LOP stock).
A couple weeks ago I stopped in Mackbros to drop off parts for a buddy’s build and ended up hauling home a rifle to try out. Super good dudes, just finishing up barrel break in but so far so good!
Interesting. I’m running a proof prefit @22” mated to a defiance and it absolutely LOVES factory 175 ELD-X.
Edit: I am also running an SRS brake but stainless 2-port.
I did a full v seven build in 556 last year and have been very impressed with it. Have owned and shot LMT, noveske and LWRC in the past but the v seven is a step above and stupid lightweight although it was not a cheap. Would love to own an AR10 version.
Been loving my 7PRC even my 11 year old enjoys shooting it. As others have said bullet weight and velocity aren’t vastly different than a fast twist 7RM but having the hottest new caliber is neat I guess.
223 will serve you well. My 11 year old son was out last week hammering a 12” plate at 490 yards with his tikka 223 and handloads in 10-15mph wind. I have shot this rifle to 700 yards on targets and it’s wonderful for reading/learning how to judge wind. My kid has been equally as fortunate to...
Running a few different 6GT’s one is a 60 degree bolt with AICS 5/10’s and one is 90 degree bolt built for Hawkins 4 round flush fits as a lightweight hunter. Zero feeding issues with either. Prefer the GT over my 6creed ‘s now days.
So here is what I did. I was in the same boat and ended up with a manners UC for the classic checkered stock. Defiance action and a proof 22” prefit. Rifle is 9lbs on the nose as pictured and thus far has produce 5 shot groups @ 0.350” with factory hornady 175eldx. I’ve got some ADG brass...
Take a look at the unknown munitions website. They are the exclusive distributor for BAT VESPR actions which utilize the lone peak inlet for stock options. Their version of the XM accommodates a bit longer OAL vs defiance (~3.2” vs ~3.4”).
Considering the recent price increases at defiance the...
