I have been a shooting enthusiast for about forty years. I have competed at mid-level in IPSIC/USPA over the years and still enjoy completing at local matches. I am an avid shot gunner and primarily hunt birds. Two years ago I decided that I wanted to learn how to shoot rifles, a discipline I have very little experience with beyond the average deer hunter. My first build was on an AR platform chambered in 5.56, the upper made by Mike at Dedicated Technology. A twenty-two inch Shilen barrel, Geissele NMT and U.S. Optics ST-10 TPAL stet up in mrad/mrad. My first objective was to be able to have first shot hits at the five hundred yard mark on a ten inch plate. I am currently grouping about 4 inches at five hundred yards, using hand loaded 77 SMK 23.5 Varget running slow at 2550 fps.
I am waiting for the delivery of a new build, 7mm Rem. Mag. configured with a Krieger 27 inch barrel (1-8.5 match chamber .315 neck, .2845 lead with a 1-30 angle), surefire break, Kelby’s Atlas action, and Applied Weapons Technology chassis. Optics used KAHLES K 624i 6-24x56mm with the MSR-K reticle. Planned load is the Berger 168 VLD, Norma brass, Retumbo and unknown primer at this point.
I have read this forum for the past two years and have derived a wealth of information from it. At this point I have several (or more) questions dealing mainly with the technical side of loading of 7mm ammunition.
Thanks in advance.
