I have a Tikka set up as a switch barrel rifle. Two proof carbon barrels and one proof steel barrel. I have been completely disassembling Rifle when swapping barrels. i mount the steel portion of the barrel near the action in the barrel Vise. What will you be hunting. Elk is at the upper end of what I would use a 6.5 caliber bullet for. I have both Creedmoor and PRC. PRC gets me an extra 200 yards of potential range with 1500 foot pounds of energy my minimum for Elk. as stated 1/3 the barrel life. if you like touching steel it...- Timetoshoot

Easiest cartridges to load for
I have 20 inch 308, 178eldx @ 2620 with varget easy to find load and one hole @3/8 inch deadly to 500 yards on deer and elk Also shoot 6.5 CM 135berger at 2800 with 4350.1/2 inch gun. Both are predictable and shoot well. 6.5 if you are patient and willing to only take double lung broadside...- Timetoshoot
