280AI. A bit more recoil but IMHO a better round on all accounts.
I considered it, but there are 2x 7mm's in the inventory already (7SAUM / 7-08AI).

But what @stello1001 said then. If the 6.5-06 doesn't work out, you're just a barrel swap away from something else 06-based.
(Or a shorter barrelled 9.3x62?)
