    There is another bill out currently that is similar, but is not for removal of ATF in its entirety. It aims to remove NFA restrictions.

    If this were to pass it doesn’t mean the nfa and others laws would go away. Their enforcement would just go to another agency. And it could be MUCH worse because they would be able to form it with all the teeth they want. Of course it would need a super huge budget and increased authority.

    Easy cheap political points, won't happen. Unfortunately usually these headlines are by politicians in the news for other less savory things and they're trying to score some points by going for single issue voters that will make up for the others they're getting less of.

    The idea of just getting rid of the ATF is one thing. Doing it, without the removal of responsibility of all the shit they do would have to happen first. For example, NFa change in 1984 for machine guns. It’s my understand (could be wrong) that this does not actually ban transfer of FA rifles made after 1984 BUT they never funded and developed the process to transfer them, so in effect they are banned.

    Now, you abolish the ATF without removing SBRs or Suppressors from the NFA and all the sudden you can’t buy them anymore. It’s still totally legal, but there’s nobody there to do the paperwork. They, again, get what they want at the expense of a few civil employees. Guarantee they’d make that trade.

    I agree with the idea in premise, but it’s can’t be stand alone unless it includes the abolishment of everything the ATF has their fingers in. Most notably the NFA and their fucking assault teams.

    I don’t really have an issue with the regulations on high explosives. It’s everything else they fuck with, mostly the execution of people and their pets, in their homes.
