KIMBER 82G

Got a Kimber 82G a while back. Never could get a decent scope mount until recent. Didn't like the way the action bolted up in stock so I pillar bedded it and floated barrel. Been sitting in the safe too long. Mounted a DMR II
and tried it with CCI standard, FDGM, and SK LR Match. I was thinking about selling because it's a single shot, but now.....yep. doubt it.

Thats a good looking 82G. There's just something about a good shooting older rifle, defiantly a keeper.

Shot it in 50yd benchrest match yesterday. Vintage/top factory class.
Tried a few boxes of Lapua center x.
Only had one lot to try. Got 497 first time out. The rifle does well. Need to try some different rounds and see what it favors.

Update. Shotnin another 50nyd benchrest today in Salisbury NC.
Got 2nd with a 500-31×. Guy with a Rem 40x took the trophy with a 500-40x.
Still, happy with the rifle.

I have a real low round count 82 Star, it has a taste for Wolf and Norma Tac (RWS). The one shot at a time is killing me, I’m wondering if a 82A could be sacrificed to turn the G into a repeater?

Of course it could. The question is do you have access to the equipment and time and knowledge to do it?

I encountered a guy who made a 40X repeater before Vudoo's and RimX's came online. He was a retired machinist with three attempts to his credit before he got a functioning one running. And even then, he didn't want to do more. And it was far from elegant. And it wasn't a design you easily could do across multiple guns to make it profitable for at the very least your time and materials.

That's sounds like a good way to ruin an 82g. Maybe someone has it down to.a science. I have not seen or heard of one done.
Enjoy it for what it is. If you want a repeater, get a CZ

Kimber 82 repeaters are available on used market...I got a Kimber 82b Classic a few months ago. It's a pretty nice rifle, although I have no idea how the repeaters compare accuracy wise to an 82g? The one I have it pretty darn good.

The 82’s are attractive guns but many have shortcomings. The stud/screw that rides the cocking cam is soft, should be replaced with one of better steel. Bores typically only shine with the very best ammo because many were slightly over sized or were not slugged before fitting, meaning the bore may be reversed taper.
Lastly, due to a lack of recoil lugs and generous inletting, there have been many instances of the stock chipping/splitting at the tang.
Lastly, there were runs with soft sears, so if adjusted to light, would wear excessively and trigger pull quality would deteriorate.
Buyer beware.

Got a 500-34x at benchrest match Saturday at Rockingham Gun Club. That was good enough for vintage class that day. After hearing about the older guys luck or lack of it with one, I definitely got a gem. Funny, both cards were 250-17x.

I have a Kimber 82 Government and an 82 Classic both from Clackamas. Both are in really nice condition with only a few
only a few safe blemishes. Both have very few round counts as evidenced by the bolt scratches.... or lack thereof. The bolt
retention cam screw for the Government unscrews opposite direction of the Classic, I shot the Government back in 2020 withj my Leupold 6.5-20 EFR air rifle scope and

Sorry....my Kimber Classic wont upload in the prior post. Though they are both very nice rifles, I'm going back to my roots and restricting myself to air rifle comps so nearly all of my powder guns are being rehomed. My preferred rifle is the Air Arms NJR*100 short action with one of my Trijicon 5 - 50 x 56 scopes mounted on her. Just like a powder gun, the ammo gets cleaned, sized, washed, and re-lubed. I had a high-power regulator made for my NJR and a high flow valve. We shoot up and down slo0pe and at unknown distances. Your target might be set at 50 yards and up in a tree so that you are shooting at a 45-degree angle. All that said, my 82Government will consistently outshoot my Vudoo. Look closely at my avatar!

For post number #19 that won't edit: I shot a 5 shot group at 50 meters with Midas Plus and got a .25"
CTC group. It wasn't cherry picked at all. To be candid, I almost always shoot Center X as my most expensive ammo.
I start out with SK yellow and then SK Red, Then I will shoot Center X as my premier ammo choice do to its
high cost and lack of superior performance over Center X. Both of my Kimbers have a light, crisp trigger.

Yes ... mine seems to shoot fairly well with most SK or Lapua products. As I recall....my overall point was that the government
requirement for the 82G was being able to group at .75" or something ridiculous. I jokingly think that mine wont shoot that poorly even if I had my eyes closed. As I review my target, it indicates that I had used my Leupold 6.5-20 EFR air rifle scope to shoot that particular group. I don't have any idea why I didn't use one of my Trijicon 5-50's to test it. The attached target is from my old Walther UIT Super. It was shot with my long-gone ATHLON CRONUS at 29X. It seems funny now that 6 to 8 years ago, I had a flawless, non-cut 82G and sold it because I couldn't stand the thought of a single shot rifle. Now, single shots are the only rifle types that I own. The Walther below has a date code of "IA". Trigger is 3.5 ounces, short, crisp and very well defined when feeling for the second stage. It feels better than all
of my Annies, even my DST. I just finished my Walther GX-1. She is absolutely gorgeous and has every ancillary part. FWIW.... When I wanted a rail, non could be found except for Cameron Murphys rails. 20MOA, SS, black Cerakote for $160.00. As a foot note... I used to own a Serbian Zastava MP22. About $275.00. It had a very rudimentary trigger that I had lapped and re-sprung. It is the only rifle that I have ever owned that liked Wolf ammo. You can see that it was a very lite, simple design. The thing that I really didn't like about it was the magazine release. I would have kept he if the release would have been a little bit more refined. I just went to find some information and happened upon my rifle on GI. Copy and paste the link onto the uppermost search area and go straight to the GI listing.

Is that your rifle on GI and your name? Thats a beautiful rifle!! Are you saying that rifle with the Athlon is a Walther? I was going to do the same thing to my 82G. I also like the way you did the forearm. Did you put an ARCA under there? I dont know if you would be interested in this but I asked Area 419 if they ever sold a scope rail for a Kimber? They said no one has ever asked but sent me the prints of all their 11mm Rails. Turns out that the CZ455 rail has the measurements to fit the Kimber. I just ordered 2. One for my 452 and one for the 82G. I will be putting them on when they get here on Thursday.

That was my Zastava. Ron Moody sold it later on. It was as he claimed. It was a very unassuming rifle that I had taken to my LGC to shoot against my buddies V22's. He had about 5K into his V22 and his optic. My Zastava didn't beat his rifle but my score was much closer than he was happy with. I was new to the club, and they dint know anything about me either. I was the new guy shooting a
heap POS. To this day, I have never let them onto my little secret. See attachment below. I'm just a damn Yankee from Michigan. LoL

The metal was finely polished, and the bluing was deep and dark. You can see that the wood was very nice too.

If you mean the short PIC rail segment on the Zastava? Yes...that is a very inexpensive mount that goes from stud mount to PIC rail.
I'm happy to find where I bought it from evil-bay. I can look under my Purchase history. Easy-peasy!
I like my ATLAS CAL bipods. Nice...but too expensive at 300.00 each.

I have had three CZ457s. They all had AREA 419. clamp on rails. I hate to spend $100 on each one, but Im unwilling to scratch up my receivers by driving set screws into them. Bob at DIP suggested putting #8 shot under the set screws. It works but it seems a bit too
cheesy for my liking. I would like to get prints of the 419 rails.

If you look closely, you can see that the top of my receiver on my Walther UIT BV isn't co-planner. The front is about 5mm
taller than the rear section. They won't have a perfect one for me, but if they have one that is close, I can have my local shop
alter the front of it and add a diving board. I have the scope rail below on my BV but I'm always looking to upgrade my toys!

What did you use to white the logo and how did you do it? Did you replace the retention cam screw? I heard that they are a weak spot. Others recommend replacing the firing pin spring but the gun I have hammers an empty casing where I dont think I am going to mess with it. I did order a couple extra screws and springs just in case.

Well I got the 455 rail and while the dimensions were right, the curvature of the dovetail on the Kimber presented a problem to getting it to fit. I removed the recoil pin in the back, rounded the metal that was causing the problem with a cut off wheel in my air die grinder. Then took a triangle file and dressed up the grinding. Took the cut off wheel to the front of the rail where it curves down and made a straight cut just behind the 3rd notch in the pic rail, then cut lined up on the middle of the mount screw hole in the rail and made a straight cut till I hit that down cut. Dressed it with the file, colored it with a magic marker, and mounted it. Took me about an hour and most of that was figuring out where I needed to cut and grind. 82G, Bushnell Match Pro, Arken Low 34mm scope mounts, 419 30 moa rail.

If you look at the end of this thread I posted some pics of the 419 30 moa rail for a CZ 455 that I modified to fit the Kimber. I took a die grinder with a cut off wheel and cleaned out the underside so the curved top of the Kimber action dovetail wouldnt hit. I also cut the forward end so it went over the stock sight block so I wouldnt have to remove it. Check out the pics.
