I had stocked up pretty well on Hornady Match 6.5CM 140g but went by my local gun shop this afternoon to purchase several more boxes of 140g Match ammo as I was getting low. Price had gone up about $8 and was $5 more than 147g which has normally been $5 higher than what I was paying for 140g. It had been maybe 3 months since I bought any of this ammo, the 147g was still the same price. Is this normal, It was $46.50 a box, I had been paying about $37-$38. 147g was $42.50, same price for about the last year.

When you say “Match” you specifically mean 140 ELD? (Some sources list the cheaper American Gunner line as “match”, but it’s not). 140 ELD Match is running $33-34/box from trusted online sources like Grab A Gun or Outdoor Limited. (Trusted, meaning I’ve purchased from them repeatedly with no issues and they are reasonable on shipping, etc). I don’t think that’s any more than it has been lately.

Yes, ELD Match. I was paying around $37 at my local range/gun shop for the last year and went in to buy several boxes and it was $46.50. Just surprised how much they raised it and how much more it was than the 147g. I'll check out the online stores you mentioned. Thanks

Ammo is where the money is made at a range new firearms make about 20% before all the costs. There’s also the whole component shortage…

Yes, but it had been the same for about the last year. The 140g was the only one I saw that they had marked up that much. I had them verify the price also as it was in a different spot than normal.

sounds like it is just the store you are shopping at

10 boxes, 200 rounds, $33 per box free shipping and a very reliable seller
Yep, that was what I was saying too, and SG is yet another trusted seller as you say. I'd buy it local at $37 to support the local seller, but at $46.50 I'd have to go with SG, etc unless I was only buying a box or two (and I never do that unless it's just to try something new).

Damn, I remember when you could buy quality match ammo for a buck a round. And the hornady black or American gunner which had the 140 bthp was way below a buck.

But I think now the normal price for 140 match with the 140 eldm is around $34/20 rounds.

S&B FMJ 140 will smack some steel for under $16 a box.

Would just have to relinquish any hornady snob cards.

Get anything while the getting is good.. probably wont get any better, likely worse, till 2026 or never.

I will only support the local guys to a point. I understand they will cost a little more than a lot of online places.

The last time I bought a case of Hornady 140 ELD match in a store was at Simmons in Bessemer AL. Those guys rock! and were only ever like a $1 box more than online if you bought 10 boxes (they gave a case discount) When it gets to 4-5-6 dollars a box more, the local guys need a sanity check. I don't buy 'a box of ammo' ever, I buy cases of ammo so it is significant to me.

I get having a 'regular store' but when they run out or jack prices up when no one else does, I will find another store.

Its horrific ammo, unless you are shooting dirt piles at 100 yards.

I bought a few K of it and tested it in a bunch of platforms. Would not group, Massive ES, not suitable at all for long range precision shooting.

Its $16 a box (I bought it at 10) because no one wants it and its nothing but blasting ammo.

S&B 6.5 is acceptable to me out to 300 yards
Hornady American Gunner I might go another 100-150 yards with
    but
in my man bun 6.5, the Hornady 140 ELD shoots great out to 1200 yards, and I have shot it successfully at a mile

All guns (barrels) will prefer something over something else, I doubt S&B is good at 1000 in any barrel, but yes, shorter range, great bargain ammo
