Danners. Been walking runs for 20 Years.
Asolo Fugitive (ironically) are the best fit and feel right out of the box and they have other models that are every bit as good
Georgia makes good "traditional" type boots.

I have Asolo fugitives for my hiking boots. Love them. Need all black for uniform though.
I am considering Danner Acadia. Danners seem to run super narrow in my experience. Might get an EE to fit.
If you want something lite and comfortable the Oakley Light Assault 2 is a comfortable boot. I buy a pair a year for work.

Just thought some Danner 2650 GTX hiking shoes/boots this weekend. I normally wear a D, but had to get EE. They are super light, not sure if they come in black though.
I’ve got a set of Acadia boots I bought 20 years ago. They have some wear on them but still serviceable by any means. They are 400g insulated, so not much chance to rest in north kackalaki. They were the shiznit in Alaska though.
Original SWAT... won my first pair at a match. Best, most comfortable boots I ever wore!!!

Ive had Danner, Oakley and a few other odd brands. Loved Danners but heavy and my Oakleys were the original Assualts and loved them. But the one that was usually my goto was a 5.11 with the side zip. Very comfortable and light. They make them in a few different heights .
I corrections, you'll want comfort and waterproof is a big plus. Youll be amazed at how fast they can flood a range. I worked in a state max and super max for three years. Very interesting job. Feel free to hit me up with any questions.

Fuck the boots and fuck corrections. Keep your favorite work boots and find a niche within the construction industry you enjoy the most and start your own company or freelance your skill sets. I can't imagine a more soul sucking job than corrections other than maybe being a CNA in a nursing home. I just wonder if CNAs backstab the fuck out of each other like cops and corrections do.
This. My dad took a job at a correctional facility after retiring to supplement his income and lasted about a month. He hated. It was a private facility that was contracted for Alaska. It was in Colorado.
I just took off my Speed Assault IIs after 15hrs on duty. They're lightweight, comfortable, feel like a sneaker, very nice. I tried a couple options before I picked them, and when I did I got the Gore-Tex option.
Because, OP, you 100% will want the Gore-Tex ones. Trust me on this. Don't ask me why, just trust me.
Whatever brand of boots you buy, be sure and get them one size bigger so you can hide condoms for fucking female inmates or a few small crack rocks or painkillers to trade to inmates for afterwork sex with their wives, girlfriends or kids.

When it comes to work boots....The PNW boot making companies REALLY do it the best, IMO. The only problem being, which one to chose? Nicks, Whites, Franks, Danners , Wesco
(hard pass on wesco personally) Of the PNW boot companies to choose from....JK Boots are my personal "Go-To." These are my favorites!! JK Boots - Forefront and a second choice to consider is these JK Boots - 300 . Only difference being the weight of the leather used and the sole construction. But.....If you've never worn a hand lasted, full leather boot 1) I'm sorry! and 2) You're missing out on some REALLY comfortable footwear! I do daily tree work in these JK Boots - Superduty short and taking my boots off is the last thing on my mind at the end of the day.
They're worth every penny.
And fit my feet like a perfectly formed leather glove.

I'd get boots that could aid me in making the job easier. Something that could "clear the way" for those times when you have to boldly go where no man wants to go....
Bought my son a pair of new 5.11 boots for a 2 week wilderness adventure camp. They were a couple of weeks used when we dropped him off. They were ready for a dumpster when we picked him up. Overall, I really like 5.11, but the boots we bought were not very durable. I saw the recommendation above and this is my “n=1” counter. I wore the crap out of a pair of danner acadias and they always came back for more. I moved them on when the treads were worn mostly off- almost a decade of wear- and a replacement pair was only a bit more than having my originals resoled. They are heavy.
That said, I’ve been wearing a pair of redwing iron rangers and really like them. Though, I did need to add an insole to get the fit correct for my narrow feet. I would look at a pair of iron rangers, blacksmiths, or roughnecks if you have a redwing store near you.

I was very, very tempted not long ago with clicking "Add to Cart" some Urban Loggers. But, I thought to just add the heel stacks to my JK's when they'll need a resole before long. Great boots! I think JK, Nicks & Franks are the top PNW boot choices.
@gunjunkie45 With walking on concrete floors all day in a jail, getcha some black JK 300's with white christy soles for some cushion. Walking on concrete with standard V100 soles may be a little less comfortable and plus, a full leather boot will fit you like a glove.

Danner Acadia have been and still are my favorite lace up boots.
The pair I have now are due for replacement, the soles are about bald but the leather is soft as a babies ass and they are as comfortable as running shoes i just can't seem to retire them.

When I bought them in 2010 I think they were nearly $250 so the current price isn't that surprising.
I kept breaking laces at one point and thought one of the eyelets were fucked until I caught my wife's cat chewing them one night.
I ordered a pair of Danner Acadias and promptly returned them. That is not a nearly $400 dollar boot! All of you suggesting things not available in ALL BLACK apparently have zero reading comprehension... I'm a big fan of Nick's and Frank's boots, but don't have that kind of time to wait at the moment. I wound up ordering a cheap pair of Garmont Nemesis 4 to get me started. I'm sure those won't be my boots for long if I stick with the job but will work in the beginning.
It's not that I didn't like them... I didn't like them enough to justify what they sell for now. A few years back at $250 they'd have been a decent value. They are currently $322. Danners don't fit me particularly well, the regular is too narrow by an uncomfortable amount ant the EE is sometimes just a fuzz too loose. As in this case. Also, the leather wasn't particularly thick, and has a weird soft surface quality reminiscent of sneakers that use a thin layer of leather with some sort of synthetic material over the top to fake it. Maybe these were great boots a few years back, in no way did they have value at the price point for me.
I should add I have worn traditional American work boots for 24 years. Red Wing 899s and 875s mostly. Leather and cork soles, thick leather. More recently Nick's and Frank's. I'm used to break in and perfect comfort in that price. The Danners weren't uncomfortable but didn't seem remotely as rugged.

My Acadias I bought in 2010 have been great but the EE size fit my foot shape really well and even better with the orthopedic insert since I have a high arch in my feet and the reason I could never wear Redwing boots no matter how well they are made as they are just to flat.
Always a good idea to go and try on boots especially anything in that price range or higher.
I have a pair of Oakly duty type boots that are very comfortable but are just marginally more durable than plain non leather athletic type shoes.
