Hey all,

First of all, brand new here, looking for a little bit of advice on my first precision weapon. Im looking to create a dope card. I understand a dope card is Data on PREVIOUS engagement but allas I do not have that and im hoping I can make one ahead of my first shoot when I get the gun in a few days. I bought bulk 165 grain federal gold medal match and im rocking a 16 inch barrel on this Defender H. I was hoping someone could plug this into one of their apps and tell me exactly what my dope would look like out to 1k. Also, if you have any recommendations on apps now that Strelok is gone id appreciate it, the hornady app doesn't have my ammo and I've found others to be very cumbersome. Thanks again!

I think many would be happy to do this, but in order to get a good dope, you're going to need some good inputs.

Things like:
  • Muzzle velocity
  • specific bullet you are using
  • sight height above bore
Once this is all input, you'd need to also enter atmospheric data as well as true the data at distance by adjusting the observed bullet BC. So while this all could be done, it's really only a snapshot in time based off current atmosphere data and will change as weather conditions change.

Absolutely, it’s the vortex cantilever mount. I don’t have the rifle so I can’t measure it but maybe we can just assume 2.5. I’m shooting gold medal match 168. Looks like velocity should be 2500. If you have an app recommendation I’ll take that aswell but that’s all I’ve got for now.

Access this site and pick the calculator you want. Input the data for the result you want. Gather the results from the calculators and then verify in the real world. It will also demonstrate the twists and turns of the rabbit hole you are preparing to enter.

Good luck and have fun.

Thank you,
MrSmith

Here. Hope this helps.
72degrees
65% humidity
DA 4405
168 SMK @ 2500 fps
100yd zero
Scope height 2.5” above bore

It’s only as good as the generic inputs

I am not being rude , but to truly find your dope you need to find somebody or who has a good chronograph and get a solid velocity reading . the g1 ballistic coefficient is .462 for the bullet you are using . Dont just guess at the distance between bore and optic . get a solid zero and then true your dope at an extended range . Guessing at stuff will only cause aggravation and money spent . every rifle is different some may have a slower barrel and some will be faster . Good luck and I hope your rifle serves you well .

Dont assume anything. Measure and take readings for everything.

Buy a Kestral elite. If you can afford a $3K rifle you can afford something to ensure you have the right dope. If you don't already have a garmin, pick one up too. Both of those devices will make your life MUCH easier.

Use the CDM and send it. Its one thing to verify your data but the old school gathering dope every 50-100 yards is like taking a horse to the indy 500. The solvers are soo good now that as long as your input is correct, the output will be very very close.

If you want to build out a dope card (and keep in mind they are atmospheric dependent, you may one one make one for each 2000 feet in DA ) I would do every 20 yards with a 308. Once you get past 600, small changes in yardage will have a big change on your elevation.

Just an FYI as well, depending on your DA, A 16" pushing a 168SMK at 2500 is going to go transonic around 800-900. Its one of the the reasons THAT bullet is regarded as a 600yard and in one. If you want to shoot further, I would run the 175 SMK/TMK, the 169 SMK, 175 Berger Hybrid, 185 Berger Juggernaut or a 176 Hornady Atip.

Since you don't have a chrono and a solver, learn how to use weaponized math: https://www.snipershide.com/shootin...aponized-math-moa-to-mil-jack-master.6964854/
