Dryfiring AI Competition Trigger

Hey all,

I've been getting some dryfire practice in for PRS. I have an AI AXMC with the AI competition trigger. What are everyone's thoughts on pressing the trigger for dryfire practice? I know precision/competition triggers can be delicate. Would I be better off not pressing the trigger for dryfire?

I’ve dry fired in an excess of a million times with my AI comp trigger. Never an issue. I’ve burned 2 6br barrels, an 308 barrel and a 6creed barrel and haven’t had a single issue other than my action locking up. I ended up just throwing my bolt in my ultra sonic cleaner and it fixed the issue.

Is this an ongoing problem with the tl3? As opposed to being a one off related to a bad batch of heat treating?

Good thing I’ve never looked at Bighorn actions I guess. I dry fire 10:1 over live fire and I shot 7000 rounds last year live.

I've never heard of anyone breaking an AI from dry firing it lots.
I mean dry firing it in huge amounts is kind of what a lot of folks do for training in between going to the range.

The trigger probably can go for hundreds of thousands of cycles just fine

Yes, I've broken firing pins on TL3's and Defiance actions, I think three firing pins total plus one or two ancillary parts. But that was back when I was dry firing a ton for practice a few years back. We're talking on the order of 100k cycles probably.

I don't fault any manufacturer or have any concern about it. Firing pins are cheap, manufacturers have typically replaced parts for free and I've always got a spare fire control group.

There are probably some firing pins that would never break no matter how much you dry fire them, but there are also some that will.

I’ve managed to pop my AXMCs firing pin during dry fire. Unfortunately it’s a long way to Rifles Only from the UK so show Jacob! I replaced it via the good folks at Sporting Services and have a backup FP on hand. It’s not stopped my biweekly dry fire session with the MC or AT, however.
