Hey y'all, putting together a 224 Valkyrie Aero M4E1 build to get into handloading with. Looking at a 18" Bison Armory SPR barrel, anyone have recent experience? I know it's a mostly dead cartridge, but I'm curious and apparently fond of questionable choices. Thanks!

I have a Valkyrie built on an Aero upper with a Faxon barrel. It's an ok shooter. Troublesome to load for and a real pain in the ass.

Personally I'd go 22 ARC and never look back. New build with a Craddock RTR barrel is a stellar performer and runs circles around the Valkyrie. Took it to SD for p-Dogs and was amazed at how well it did in 15-20 MPH winds out to 900 yards.

I’d go with a longer barrel like a 22-24 inches. I have a 24 in bartlin barrel from Croddock shoot like dream. I have a Valkyrie and have no issues getting brass from Starline

I went with the Bison Armory 24" 6.5 twist on 224 Valkyrie... first barrel was a Ballistics Advantage barrel 2 to 2.5 inches for 5 shots.
I went with 95 gr SMK, and 80, 88 gr ELDM, mostly. RL 17 was a good powder in mine at the time...fast and accurate.
The 224 Valkyrie was a bit more difficult to get to shoot. Took it apart a few times, then centered the bolt carrier with really helped with this cartridge.

That's sweet. How did you center the bolt carrier? Haven't heard of that before

Centering the bolt carrier has been around quite awhile...I learned it in an AR 15 Armours course.
It requires a lathe and a mill, & precision measuring tools.
One of the bolt carrier makers are moving in this direction, but it's only partially complete, leaving still too much clearance, half right is better than nothing.
I have described the proceedure completely on this form several times over.
Here are a couple of pictures, of the proceedure in mill and lathe.
To get and understanding and maybe others will provide these services. It's not super rare...
