Anyone tried Cerakote FX additives?

I tried FX Gold for the first time (never used any FX before, just started with gold!). All the Cerakote examples seem to use Graphite Black as a base - so I started there. Is there a particular reason for choosing the black?

The gold effect is pretty good in sunlight, but in shade it's definitely noticeable its got a dark base. I would have though a silver base would have been a better option, so I'll try that next.

Overall, it's quite a process to use it and it does look like a thick layer when you've finished...

Was thinking about snagging some in their recent promotion, but just don’t have anything I could imagine putting it on, outside of a prop in the next Will Smith “Bad Boys” movie.

That does look… THICC!

Almost like Supergrip.

Just assembled the lower. All the roll pins went in fine, so it definitely looks thicker than it actually is... It does seem to have a more noticeable 'layer' than just Cerakote - but then I've never used Armor Clear Gloss before either!

Excuse my naivety here….I am a spray paint that mutha camo kind of guy….and when I do I tape up the rail to make sure the optic mounts have a secure hold. So where I am going with this is….is that a concern with aftermarket type Cerakote? Is there any movement with scope mounts on recoil?
Thanks!

These are FX cosmic (which looks blue) over graphite back. The black Manners in “kryptek” is 25% concentration FX Cosmic and sprayed on the graphite black after “tacking out” (yes, you are supposed to spray it wet in wet, but this way gives a less “blue” more ghost grey color with the shimmer).

You don’t have to mix it at 100% the recommended concentration. You can vary the appearance with different concentrations.

I should have some examples over different base colors soon. I have sprayed test coupons in the past.

PS - the pen is faded from black to Cosmic at about 50% concentration if I recall correctly.
