FNH SPR Action

So, years ago I bought FNH SPR action from CDNN. I believe it is a last run from the old Winchester plant in Connecticut Because it uses the old style trigger. Shortly after, I purchased a McMillan HTG M40a1 stock inlet for a M70 s/a and the action fit with no problem. I recently pulled these out of the safe because I wanted to build a rifle for my daughter. I ordered a PTG bottom metal drop magazine floor plate with AI 4267 magazine. When I went to order a 1 piece Picatinny rail for it, I discovered something strange. The bridge measurement was not coming up to the numbers listed on a Win M70 inside hole to inside hole length for a short action. After some investigation, FNH stated that it uses a magnum action on their rifles.? The bolt face is for a .308 case, but it appears to be set in a WSM bridged receiver.? Can anyone verify this?

I wondering if any one else has encountered this? If so, did you notice any measurable difference for your bottom metal?
I cannot find a schematic for a model 70 WSM action so I cannot verify. Per EGW website, m70 s/a measures .3259 and a m70 WSM measures .3514 Inside to inside hole. Mine is definitely .3514.

SPRs will not accept optical rails made specifically for the Model 70. The two receivers are different in this regard. Order a rail specifically for the FN SPR and it should be fine. SPRs used essentially a Winchester WSM action but with differences in the rear receiver bridge profile, optical rail screw size and spacing.

Thank you

You’re welcome Sir.

If you want to purchase one your best bet would be to either call Badger Ordnance directly or Triad Tactical.

There may be other suppliers with stock but not sure.

Badger has a list of retailers on their website.

Best regards,

Chet

I sure would like to find just one ten round magazine for mine. No luck so far.

They’re rare as hen’s teeth anymore. I stocked up when the gettin’ was good, and still paid a decent bit for them. The 5rnd mags work just fine, you’ll just need to get good at reloads lol. Otherwise, lots of patience and about $100/mag is about what you’ll need when they do pop up, sometimes less if you’re lucky.
