ELR with a 375 H&H

You could get there with a long enough barrel. That is no problem with the Snipetac, I’m running a 375 grain bullet at 3150 from my shorter barrel. Could probably get more but it shoots insanely good where it’s at.
As someone who is very experienced with the 375hnh, it'll take a helluva long barrel plus if you can get enough powder in the case.

IMO this is a fruitless venture. @cuirc you have a 338 LM that is ballistically superior.
Fruitless; well I don't know It certainly don't have the power of the new 375 CT I haven't compared it to the 338 LM but I am sure it is near as powerful. I bought 25 of the new 390 Hornadry with the aluminum tip BTSpitzer they look so pretty I am not sure I have the motivation to shoot them I could just leave them on the shelf with my cartridge collection and use something else. But I like to experiment. I already own the gun, it is my favorite hunting rifle. In the odd chance it worked it is a lot lighter that the Savage.

The 338 Lap will have more energy and better ballistics. It's possibly but it's not going to be better than the lap that's for sure.

Don't get me wrong I like my lap and will continue using it in any case but I will be 80 at the end of the month and I can't carry a 23 pound rifle for ever. My 375 is a hunting rifle I take it every year I figure if the 375 works out in ELR space and I have to I can use that sometimes.

(Setting aside issues for throat and seating depth, cartridge length, etc for a moment...).

I'm not certain you're realizing the scale of some of these cartridges, even the 338LM is considerably more powerful than the 375 H&H case. The 375 H&H has 95grn case capacity, and it's going to eat ~70grn of powder to get a 390grn bullet up around 2200fps. The 338 Lapua has a case capacity of 116grn H2O and will eat around 90grn of powder to get a 300 up to 2800fps - sure, the Hornady 390 has a .497G7, but the 300 Hybrid has a .421G7, and starting out that much faster... The 375 H&H is going to be dropping 38mils by 2000yrds, while the 338Lapua will only be 24.6. Hell, the 375 H&H won't even hold that 390 A-tip super-sonic as far as a 6 creedmoor, and the H&H is dropping ~10mils more at 2000 - the only advantage the 390 would have over a 105 Hybrid there would be the ~1mil less wind drift in a 10mph full value...

The Cheytac is a completely different animal. The 375 Cheytac has something like 159grn H2O case capacity and eats around 140grn of powder, twice as much as the relatively diminutive H&H case, to push 400grn bullets up to 3050fps, and is only dropping 16mils, less than half as much drop, as the H&H at 2,000, only 16 mils...

So if all of the potential mechanical/physical issues are solved, really, the 375 H&H with a 390 A-tip will basically be a really high recoiling long range cartridge - not extreme long range cartridge.

i get the shit beat out of me with my 375 now and it is my main hunting rifle. Sometimes when I feel really masochistic I take the 458. But seriously, we have come a long way with muzzle brakes , that I hope we can get there before I have to give up the Lapua

Yeah, I haven’t met a 375 H&H which didn’t kick the shit out of the shooter too… always light, Sporter rifles compared to an ELR rifle.

My 10 year old has shot my 375 Cheytac - but it weighs 39.8lbs. Way, way more horsepower than the H&H case, but the brake and the weight take it down. I’d find a little wagon so you can move a heavy rifle easier, and stick with something more fruitful than the 375 H&H for ELR.

Hell, just having a 300 PRC barrel made for that H&H would be more fruitful

I was at the 24 NightForce ELR and I had a little cart for the 338 LM rifle ad some miscellaneous that was heavy and didn't want to carry. it didn't work out so well so I am back at the drawing board looking for alternatives for next year.

If it were me I’d get a used 3 wheeled stroller and cut all the fabric garbage off and build some shelves/ brackets to hold all my gear and ammo. Should be pretty capable, I used to do this for sporting clays.

I see lots of those or baby strollers that get repurposed for packing guns and gear at all kinds of matches. I'll admit I'm about to do the same :ROFLMAO:
