I am looking to purchase a 223 rifle to use as a trainer for a long range hunting class I want to attend. I use the A419 sidewinder muzzle device system for my cans and everything I have is either threaded in 5/8x24 or 3/4x24.

To continue the ease of this system, is my only option to get a factory threaded Tikka in 5/8x24 the Super Varmint Roughtech? Only asking cause I’m trying to keep the weight down to replicate a hunting rifle, but don’t really want to get a super lite then have it threaded in 1/2x28. Open to any other suggestions if you have them.

Get the Witt Machine clamp on threaded adapter.

Easy button. I have one of these and a clamp on brake and like them both.

$61.68 bucks on sale for July 4th.

The 223 CTR is 5/8x24. They’re tough to find.

You might be better off finding a cheap lite model as a donor and putting a threaded prefit on it. Otherwise you’re gonna spend roughtech or super varmint money.

I had my superlite 223 threaded 1/2x28, but sold it when I found a CTR.

A couple months ago i could find brand new t3x lite compact 8 twist 223s for under $700 online. Buy one offline, have it directly shipped to a smith to thread muzzle, then to your FFL. Less than $1k and you're done for much less than a Supervarmint and at "hunting" weight.

That’s what it’s looking like. I appreciate everyone’s input. Going to check with the LGS tomorrow and see if they will price match Euro, if not I’ll throw my order in with them.

I thought about your method, but that seems like it would result in 1/2x28 threads and would need an adapter. Trying to avoid multiple adapters.

Is the sidewinder adapter stuck in your can? Seems like it’d be pretty easy to just buy a non-sidewinder adapter for that rifle and use whatever system your can has. Hell, you could buy a new dedicated can with 1/2” DT for the $ saved vs a supervarmint.

It’s not stuck, but I run the Sidewinder in all of my cans. I guess the way my brain works is I would rather have availability of all of my cans than having one with a different mounting setup. It’s why I keep buying actions and building whole rifles instead of swapping barrels. I’m hoping the Zeus QC will actually save me money lol.

I hadn’t considered having a dedicated can with the savings, actually not a bad idea. And adds another can to the arsenal 😂

$1649 +shipping+tax+transfer Seems awfully expensive for what you’re getting. You could buy a used rifle, get a prefit in whatever taper you want, threaded 5/8x24, and put it in a bravo chassis for that kind of money.

I’ll be getting the rifle for about 10% less than msrp, it’s my main reason for considering it. I’ve thought about using a spare Fuzion and looking for a lighter contour prefit, but by time you do that and add a stock you’re back at the same price or more than the factory rifle because I would also need a smaller bolt.

I may still go down that road, the Tikka was just an easy button.

There are lots of built Tikkas in the classifieds here. Just keep an eye out.

Also, damn near any Tikka barrel with fit on any Tikka action and headspace correctly. The lettering might be off a bit, but the chamber will pass a GO/NO GO gauge.

If you want to find new take-off barrels, look on eBay. If you look lone enough, what you want will come available.

Easy button is buy the action and an action wrench and barrel vise, built what you want from there.

Tikkas are the rifle version of a Glock 19. There are accessories for just about anything you want to to it.
