Melquan rides bike into river to get away from cops......glug, glug, glug

Love how the cop kept screaming to grab it. Pretty much like how cops will continue to shout at a suspect who's been lit up to put their hands behind their backs.
They only did so because the “cameras” were on. Just like when they are “lighting someone up” they really don’t give a fuck about some piece of shit. Just makes it easier at the civil trial.

So, that cop made a consciencious decision at which point he decided to let that guy drown instead of getting wet and going in the water to save his life...
Not my words.

The Supreme Court ruled that cops do not have a constitutional duty to protect a citizen from harm, ruling that "[t]he duty to provide public services is owed to the public at large, and, absent a special relationship between the police and an individual, no specific legal duty exists".

SCOTUS has already ruled that cops have no duty to protect lives other than their own while on duty.
Ahhh, I see. So if I see a cop getting the shit kicked out of him by 3 dudes, or is being shot at, or is drowning in a river I should pull out my lawn chair, grab some popcorn and enjoy the show... Check... Its funny though, I kept waiting for that cop to jump in and go get him. Guess I am old fashioned and actually give a shit about people.

At the end of the day we all want to be good samaritans, but interfering with police business can get you in some serious legal issues if things go south.

It's not quite that simple.
Try seeing how well you can swim while wearing a full duty belt, duty boots, a IIIA vest...
Now maybe you can actually swim with all that, maybe not.
Okay maybe you spend couple minutes stripping all that off you.

How good of a flowing current river swimmer are you?
Do you know how dangerous it is to try to rescue a panicked adult when you have no gear?
Especially one that quite possibly would not hesitate to fight you.

This wasn't some innocent kid or such...
It wasn't some poor dog.

It looked like the officer was going to try to do the best to help him with the limited tools he had available, but at a certain point in time was like, well I aint dying for this fool.

I can't say I would have done much else either. It all went down pretty fast.
The guy was probably on drugs too.

Depends, you might get shot by the cops "buddies", it wouldn't be the first time someone doing a heroic act to save somebody got waxed by the police.
I'd say that one isn't cut and dry, some situations I'd walk away from, some I'd sit back and watch some I might try to help.

Take for example in Germany where the Uniform hanger decided to go start beating up some local citizen that was trying to stop a crazed knife wielding terrorist because well, "we must protect the glorious invaders from those racist citizens" and got stabbed by said "freedom loving immigrant" for his troubles, I'd be of the persuasion, of well that's Karma, not my place to get involved...

You missed one major detail.
Take your phone out and get video or it didn't happen.

Without training, attempting to save a drowning person is likely to result in two drownings.
Even with training it's a very dangerous task. It happens often in S. Florida and even thinking about entering the water without water rescue equipment is not advisable, the "do something" response is what gets people killed in the water rescue situation. This is the cardinal rule you should not break.
