It’s cerakoted and SS and the gun is less than a year old. I realize that there are many types of stainLESS and some will rust/stain but my thinking was the cerakote would provide an additional layer of protection and I wouldn’t notice anything for years down the road.

The 3 series varieties of stainless will be the most resilient when it comes to corrosion resistence due to the very low carbon content and higher chromium content.
It also makes them softer and more prone to galling.
A process that I have seen used on Duplex 2205 stainless and 4 series for corrosion resistence is to pickle and passivate for additional corrosion resistence but we still had to use clean latex gloves and clean chromed tools while assembling the parts.
The short answer is yes all SS can rust that I am aware of if not maintained properly.

It looks like it may be some type of chemical reaction.
Chlorides will do that to stainless steel and some cleaning solvents have chlorides in them.
Just a thought.
Only cleaning products I’ve used is Shooters lube and jb bore paste. None of my other rifles and handguns have had this type of reaction to the shooters lube. The rifle only has around 80 rounds through it

Monel 404 Won't rust ,neither will titanium 316L SS is higher corrosion rust resistance . One could get it DLC coated .

You could also have Wright Armory do NP3 or Teflon coated . Fyi : NP3 is an Electroless Nickel/PTFE coating that combines sub-micron particles of Teflon with Electroless Nickel.

I have an LMT carrier that is NP3 coated, very slick and cleans up easy.

19 posts in and not one “how does it shoot?” Y’all are slipping. Not much I can add that hasn’t been covered. But, every year muzzle loader hunters shoot a deer with their stainless guns, leave them dirty, and find out that stainless is not rust proof. But, if I were forced to accept rust on a firearm, I think the brake is where I’d want it. So, “how’s it shoot?”

Had you read above you will see where I’ve only used shooters lube and jb bore paste
After cleaning did you oil the muzzle brake ?. What about excessive humidity ?. Not sure about shooters lube ,as to it's chemical composition . Perhaps a reaction with JB Bore paste ?. What I can tell You or anyone else is : Dealing with sharp edges doesn't fair well with applied baked on coatings . Ceramic-polymer is no exception ,just like powder coating ,epoxy , urethane whatever DOESN'T adhere to sharp edges . Chemical conversion coatings are a better choice IMO .

It would be MY Guess JB Bore paste is responsible ,as it's ABRASIVE . Passing a Jag patch through chamber bore muzzle would eventually cut coating off of edges and thus allow rust creep .

Rust is a chemical reaction that involves the exchange of electrons between atoms; certain chemicals can accelerate rusting by increasing the electrical activity between iron and oxygen. Substances such as salts and acids increase the conductivity of moisture around metal, making rust happen more quickly.

Nearly forgot about this one :

Tectyl is a globally recognised brand in industries such as passenger car OEM, truck and bus OEM, railway, military, spare parts, container and power generation, general industrial manufacturing and the concrete industry. Certas Lubricant Solutions stock a comprehensive range of Valvoline Tectyl products, whose protective coatings exhibit strong adhesive properties with metal surfaces, in turn forming an active polar binded rust preventive barrier. Tectyl products are engineered for short or long, indoor or outdoor exposure. They are designed to help metal surfaces resist the effects of moisture, salt spray and even harsh corrosives.
