Need to get a device pinned and welded. Who do you guys recommend for it?

Hoping they can pin and weld it in a way that I don't have to destroy the brake completely if I ever need to remove it in the future.

The weld is RARELY all the way to the barrel threads. It’s just a little cap weld to make it difficult to remove the pin that is sitting into a hole drilled just barely deeper than the threads to prevent rotation. As @smoothy8500 posted above, careful drilling of the weld will allow the pin to be free and removed. It’s not even necessary to have a machinist or gunsmith do it. This is how I have the same brake on my third barrel. I also pin and TIG myself…and I don’t own a lathe or milling machine.

John Thomas at Retro Arms. He removed a pinned MD and mounted and pinned a new one. Mailed to him on a Monday and I had it back in hand by Friday. He has also mounted an A2 front sight for me. Excellent work and very fast.

JT is good. Had him pin a fsb for me and some other mods to it for an xm16e1 clone.

D Wilson or ADCO if you're planning on shipping it out to get done. Whatever you do, if you go with a local guy, make sure he knows what he's doing and uses TIG. If not, this is what might happen:

If your muzzle device needs to be timed, and you don't want to use a crush washer, do that yourself before sending the barrel in. Same thing if you're concerned about over torqueing. It might sound like a simple job, but specify your expectations with the gunsmith before having the work done. Some places, like ADCO, will not time a muzzle device using shims prior to pinning, and other places may charge extra for shimming. There are one or two other considerations if it's a suppressor mount.

I'm capable of brazing but I have no intention of doing that. At least if I have to destroy something it's only a brake with the pin/weld. In not sure if you could ever clean up the threads enough to be workable after a silver solder.

It's a kac NT4 mount. Nothing super fancy but will have a suppressor on it.

I turned a spacer on my lathe to time correct. D. Wilson offers to time it.

Not how do you know what's the right stuff, how do you know they used the right stuff.

But like I said, I know from first hand experience that the same goes for a pin and weld job. (Having paid one of the places above to do one, only to find out years later when I removed it that their pin not only didn't enter the barrel, it didn't even completely pass through the comp)

If it was mentioned here say who. I don't want to be sending my barrel to someone that's going to catch me a charge later.

I decided to do everything that I could by myself and then have a local experienced welder tig weld the pin.

I was able to personally make sure of:
    Timing/orientation/correct shimming
    Torque
    Checked alignment with suppressor
Matching 17-4 ss pin material to device
    Pin length/depth

Now I just need to arrange to have my welder friend tig weld it. No shipping and no wondering how somebody else did everything.
