Titanium TBAC CB Mount?

Is anyone making a Ti TBAC CB mount? I’m using an ultra 5 on a lightweight backcountry rig and it seems silly that the mount alone weighs half as much as the can. I’d gladly buy a Ti mount to shave off another ounce or so.

My Ultra 7 CB came with this mount instead of a CB brake. I always assumed it was a direct thread insert that TB uses. Wish I could buy a couple more. Don’t know what it weighs but has to be lighter.

If I were concerned about weight in a back country hunting rig, I’d pack a pair of molded ear plugs and leave the supressor and muzzle device at home. In fact, that’s what I do.
Most of the time when I’m hunting, things happen fast enough that I don’t have time to put in ear pro. As this can is on a 9# .300 PRC I also wanted some recoil reduction.

We would not necessarily recommend doing that due to issues with galling and thermal expansion rates. That’s why we don’t make them. Proceed at your own risk.
It’s awesome that you guys chime in about requests like this! Which is part of what I love about the hide. That being said, I totally understand use at your own risk. This can is dedicated to this rifle so if it welds itself to the muzzle device then I guess I have a direct thread can now and I can live with that.

These only take about a sec to put on. Just hang them around your neck until you need them. I’ve never missed a shot because I was putting in ear pro. Put a Ti brake on your rifle for recoil reduction…

I've often thought about just using red locktite on a cb brake in my cans. I've bought enough brakes that I could've bought another can if my cans were direct thread lol. Is there any reason, for a dedicated hunting can, why it would be a bad idea to just red locktite a titanium brake in a suppressor?

No, besides that the retention between a DT can and a threaded barrel is worse than the retention between a CB brake and a CB can.

ETA- I missed the part about a "titanium brake". When we used to make titanium-threaded direct thread cans (e.g. 30P-1, etc), we had cans get stuck all the time due to galling between stainless and ti. Not a good combination. We have never-- never-- seen a DLC coated 17-4 CB brake gall and seized on SS muzzle threads.

Might not present as an issue with a hunting rifle that sees very limited use, but I can definitely see this as an issue for most of our shooting uses.

I gotcha, thanks for the info Zak!

I worry about getting my direct thread TBAC cans stuck on my barrel. Last month I had to use a strap wrench to remove a DT U9 from a barrel. I don't worry about DT cans walking loose.

I went ahead and ordered the SRS Ti brake. We’ll see how it performs. This gun likely won’t see 100 rounds per year once it is zeroed so it’s not like I’m doing heavy strings of fire. Between the low round count and being diligent about removing and cleaning the mounting surfaces I’m hoping that it won’t be an issue.
