I was hoping someone here might be able to help.
I’m looking for access to private ground to hunt antelope in unit 23 Wyoming. Near Gillette.
Willing to pay a trespass fee as long as it’s not straight up gouging. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hunted there 11 years ago - It was no trouble getting access from a landowner for a small fee.

Hunted there 3 years ago - completely different ball game. Almost all of the ranchers/landowners had their property’s hunting rights leased to outfitters. Call Rusty’s Taxidermy - he may be able to point you to a landowner looking for someone to hunt on their place. Also, PM me your cell number and I’ll text you some other information that may be helpful - it is a bit dated, but it’s worth a shot if you still need help.

Good luck with your hunt.

In the same boat with two doe tags Type 7 (doe for private land only) for Area 23 in WY and looking for a place to hunt a doe 910-297-2089

I am an outfitter in 23. I'm guessing you're not going to have much luck. The private land in this area is mostly locked up and leased up. And those tags cannot be used on public land of any kind. We deal with this every year and while I feel for the guys that buy the tags, it is up to them to do the research and preferably find a place to hunt before they buy the tag. The game warden, landowners, and outfitters take a barrage of calls right after the leftovers go on sale and again from those that buy them before finding a place. Then again during hunting season by the good old boys that show up out here with no where to hunt and roll into your place knocking on doors. I live a long ways from town and off of a county road and like most rural people I don't really appreciate my day being interrupted several times daily by people I don't know that have no business being at my door.

Yeah, lessoned learned. Looks like I won't even bother driving out before the deer season starts and just trash these tags as they seem worthless unless you already have a place to hunt lined up, which seems hard to get without a lot of networking.

As an outfitter in 23 I'd think m you'd offer him up a doe hunt for a fee instead of telling him he's screwed. I mean its a doe antelope in WY. If its that bad make a sign that says "dont ask" and put it at the end of your driveway. I do wonder why people buy PLO tags, especially out of state, without a plan. Ive had pretty good luck with door knocking over the years but its NEVER at the times when people door knock and always with some sort of reciprocal offer.

Sorry zeroz, but we are fully booked and don't want to kill any more does. Same as most everyone else that I know in the area. As for signs, no one reads them anyway judging by the amout of trespassers we deal with every year. I'm glad you have figured out a system of getting permission that works for you. I actually don't mind an e-mail that I can answer at my convenience but I dislike someone coming to my door. If 10 people a day came knocking at your door wanting to use your back yard for a picnic you'd get tired of it. Whether they offered to pay or not.
