ATS vs ACE muzzle brake

One on left is a 6mm. One on right is a 6.5. Rest of them are on guns.

I havent even played with tuner yet. Thats on a barrel i only shoot factory 6.5 ammo but ive been so busy with other match guns and life, havent even had time to play with it. In fact, the gun that was on has a .223 trainer barrel on it now.

Should I expect an ATS or ACE to have similar recoil reduction to my OG Hellfire? I obviously want less concussion, but don’t want to sacrifice too much recoil reduction. I’m thinking the ATS is the brake for me.

ACE performs a little better than a Sidewinder, at least on my rifle, with much less concussion. I still need to double plug with the ACE, but I don't feel beat to shit after being on the range with it. I ran a Maverick for the last year and a half, trying to get away from the noise (was shooting the Sidewinder before the Maverick), but I'm experimenting to see if I can get a little less movement out of the gun without ending up with ears ringing through double plugs.

I don't have an OG Hellfire to compare to, but the Sidewinder was the "Hellfire Match" option before there was a Hellfire Match and generally performs better than the original Hellfire. I shot them in subsequent sessions (because getting the Sidewinder adapter off the barrel is tough without a barrel vise), but shot barricade positional and mod prone with both. There's not a lot of difference in the rearward push between them, but the ACE has less upward motion (the top ports seem to work, basically). And ... quieter for sure.

I have a buddy who's particularly blast sensitive. I had him with me while I was shooting the ACE. His subjective opinion was that the blast/noise being two benches over from me was "not bad", for whatever that's worth.

I’m currently shooting the ACE with their newer shield added and am pleased to report that it’s awesome.

If you care about your hearing you need to be using a can or the ACE/shield setup (IMHO).

What’s crazy is, I think the shield actually helps the ACE work better (at least for me). IDK if it’s just a feel thing due to their being basically zero concussion or what, but I haven’t been running it for very long and I have been seeing more impacts/splash than ever.

The ACE is really mild as far as brakes go on its own, but the shield turns it into a pussycat.

If you want a brake for sheer recoil mitigation, IMO it’s the MPA DN5 and then everything else (just prepare to go deaf, even with double ear pro).
