Sitka pissed off Euro optic

Again, I get it. You guys that live out west need all kinds of fancy gear to walk around mountains with. The rest of us that live in heavily forested woodland environments that only have to drive a little ways to some land to trudge into where we have a ground blind or stand set up (or for some of us, within a mile of our back door) probably don't need fancy gear and that's why we poke fun at it. It's an insanely high margin market that IMO was mostly set up for yuppies and fools with lots of money to burn.

I also appreciate good gear, but there's no way in fuck I'm spending hundreds of dollars on a jacket just to tag out for the year. I can get good 'nuff gear for putting meat on the table without spending that much. Hell our forefathers did it for centuries.

$$ is far tighter for most people now. “Cool stuff” has a very high price that in the last several years has become due to very high profit margins. We are seeing low volume sales due to price now. Even MacDonalds cut coffee prices recently.

Note: 6’ 8” 215 lbs guy, the target market you inhabit is absolutely irrelevant to anyone but you.

"hunting" clothes are fucking gay

The most successful hunter I've known my whole life always wore jeans, a flannel button up, an orange vest, his work boots, and an orange trucker hat

Technical clothing definitely has its place - I'm a huge fan of it in the right situations.

However, I will agree that the typical hunters penchant for camo everything can reach comedic levels.

Sure....it's relevance to me is kind of all I give a shit about though, so....

Hey, I'm all for you guys walking around the woods in jeans and thermal shirts. To each her own.

Hell, I'm sure the settlers and our founding fathers had all kinds of uncomfortable shit that they wore while musket balling big game. Wooden shoes had their moment in time also. It seems like some of you fine folks are feeling a little grumpy and fuddy today.

Totally relevant to nothing in this thread, but who woke you up? You’ve been here since 2018, yet all of your posts are here in this thread.

Welcome to Snipers Hide.

I was thinking the same thing- his first posts are on a very specific and unusual topic- maybe he has a dog in the fight, but we'll never know.

Just about everything has a time and place. I have a few different pairs of pants from various manufacturers. But figured tops I just go with whatever is in my cold weather gear back from working the bering sea, usually marino wools, under armor cold gear and fleeces. 75% of the time I just hunt in my work pants, but if heat or rain are in the forecast I'll break out the good stuff. And it's totally worth every penny when you need it

To each their own, but the prices for this "hunting apparel" is bordering on the absurd. Especially for ones made in a Chinese sweat shop.

Meanwhile, I'm still hunting and doing everything I need to in jackets in pants bought from Costco like 7-8 years ago that cost less than 1/4 as much;)
Walmart wrangler carpenter pants and leftover brown undershirts from my uncle sam days here. I do have some so so boots though

Buy Vietnamese clothes. Made way better.

Sitka is terribly overpriced. But it also works better than anything else I’ve tried.

I caught some on a big sale once and stayed warmer with less bulk than anything else I’ve tried. Plus it’s quiet.

I had a closet full of stuff that you got to pick if you wanted to be quiet, warm or light weight but you could only have 2 of the 3.

Didnt realize we had so many old farts on here.

Hilarious to hear you guys talk crap about high end hunting gear while you go down the rabbit hole with your long range shooting rigs.

Pot meet kettle.
Yeah, I’m getting the same vibe.

I’m assuming that most guys in here like nice glass. I started killing deer with a Remington 7400 in .270 with a Simmons 3-9 on top of it. I still have the rifle.

I’m sure that glass would still work fine but I replaced it because there are better options and I can afford not to use a shitty scope. We all get to choose how we spend our money. I like nice kit. I may be in the wrong place 🤣

I met a guy that worked for Sitka on a hunt in montana on public land. he parked his pop up camper near my camping spot off a dirt road on public land. He wouldve froze if I hadnt fixed his propane heater. I also ran my generator for most of a day to charge the battery for his camper that was dead when he got there. He repaid my generosity by stealing gas from me for his 4 wheeler when I would be out hunting. The nearest town and gas station was a 2 hour drive away. I had brought enough gas to make it 2 weeks without going to town. Missing valuable hunting time to replace what he took was infuriating. I confronted him about the gas and he admitted to taking it, and paid me for it. when the weather got cold/rainy he packed up and left. Dude was a total bitch/asshole. I shot a nice 6x7 bull elk later that week with my bow. I texted him a picture and captioned it with "too bad I wasnt wearing sitka gear!" He didnt respond. I vowed never to buy anything sitka from that experience.

What a douche. You should have let him freeze!

He could have proven how well their sleeping bags work 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have been hunting whitetail deer in the southeast for about 28 years I can tell you from experience you don't need camo, the two biggest factors are scent and movement.

Turkeys on the other hand are a bit different. I do dress in full camo for them.
Hunting in the southeast is a whole lot different than out west. I've done both, so just saying...

There's a big difference in hunting a woody hollow, versus hunting canyons and valleys with wide open spaces.

Dammit son you wear the official colors of the Green Bay Packers (Blaze Orange) during gun season and you like it.

(Deer are color blind yo).

Pheasants hide like little pricks and I was a pussy as a youth and couldn't pull a bow.

/got nuthin, former poor, got better, still hate wasting it on clothes.

There are a lot of on here bashing Sitka, I am going to assume that none of you has worn them. I hunt and own some Sitka stuff and it is hands down the best clothing gear I have ever used. Blocks the wind, very warm when needed, awesome layering and sized to accomadate that, packable and tough. Just because you hunt out of your truck doesnt mean everyone does.

Look at any brand camo. Technical or not. It’s all expensive. Browning, Beretta, whatever. Now brands like Duck Camp are getting in on it. Ain’t none of it cheap like it was

Careful, you might get called a shill for liking nice stuff.

Are the waders any good? Eurooptic is taking my money frequently

Yes as outrageously expense as they are, mine have been great. Got a slight tear near the boot (barb wire probly), sent back to Sitka who repaired them at no cost and returned in a couple weeks with freebie cap & gloves. If you spend a lot of time hunting in waders IMO they’re worth it. It’s amusing for sure how much hunters will spend on designer camo for sitting in a heated deer stand , but their waterfowl gear has held up & served me well.

Same-same for Kuiu, they make some good gear too. I wear some of it for snowboarding or other mountain activities - rather support hunting brands than Patagonia, NF etc.

"Technical" hiking clothing is the exact same thing for less $$. Once you put camo on it or brand it for hunting, the fudds all come out in droves to waste their money on it.
👆 this. Not much need for camo, just good gear... I hunt in outdoor brands like Outdoor Research, Norrona, Marmot, etc. Versatile gear that gets used all the time. I also own some Sitka from years ago. Its good stuff, and I do like First Lite, but usually just roll in good outdoor gear in neutral colors/earth tones.

All joking aside, I have 1 piece of Sitka, wife bought it for Christmas one year. I didn't have the heart to tell her it wasn't no better than the cheap discontinued stuff my buddy's wife was buying direct from the factory.

I think I got enough Core-4, Columbia, First Lite, and whatever it was Walls/Dickies produced for a brief period 7 - 8yrs ago. It's all miss matched and I haven't found a situation cold enough to wear the Columbia Widgeon Omni-Heat 3 n 1 jacket/bibs, even raining and close to zero, spitting rain, ice and snow, it's just damn hot and heavy.

Roger's Sporting Goods has good quality house brand stuff and they blow it out all the time, I bought pullover hoodie 1/4 zip jackets for $9 - $19 in the spring, bought every choice they had, 6 for less than $100 shipped, same with their fleece and wool base layers, $5 - 10 for either top or bottom crew necks. Have a ton of Gander Mountain from their store closings. I have way more crap than I will ever where out and if I get wet or cold it's because I didn't plan properly.

I do wear the new original Prana Zion pants, only because I get a family discount, they are very comfortable, extremely easy to wear and take daily wear well.

I say good on Eurooptic. Good people there and a good company. I owned a pair of Sitka pants that i unironically enough bought from Eurooptic. I do outdoor camping and hiking and the stitching on mine came apart from under a year of use. They were replaced under warranty without issue but I sold them off on eBay when I got the replacements. I typically use craghoppers and still use them to this day. Much more durable for my use. I am interested in getting some Kuiu pants though. I value ruggedness, comfort and flexibility in outdoor pants in that order. The Sitka pants I bought didn’t pass that threshold
