Montana shooting competitions?

Rippey,
Thanks for the reply. I’ll look at those you mentioned. Was hoping there was a local monthly match of sorts to hone some skills before traveling to matches. I’ve been out of the LR thing for a few years since moving to Montana ironically.
Maybe next summer I can meet some more shooters in the area and get something going even if it’s informal.

I’m hoping to be at the Defy the distance match in Three Forks on 2/10. Looks like they are doing a monthly match this year.
We are doing a monthly match this year. February, March, April are the next three. We’ll take May and June off and be back for a July match. The trophies are awesome and we have pizza at the awards ceremony as well.

The Three Forks, Defy the Distance match was awesome. Definitely learned some more things about position building and the difficulty of making a wind call when everything is covered in packed snow. Can't wait to shoot there again. They had a pretty cool spin on the classic barricade stage. March in MT is looking like 3 matches in 4 four weekends, along I-90. Ronan, Three Forks, and Billings. Even more matches if you want to hit southern Wyoming. Hoping to be at Billings on 3/30 and definitely at Cody for Ice Breaker 4/6

WPR Schedule

Couple pics from last week. (my phone sucks but it really was a great venue)

How’s everyone summer going? Hopefully not melting. So. Many. Matches. PRO rimfire finale was this weekend and it didn’t disappoint. 2 days of fun in Billings and that is. Phrase not used often or sparingly. Anyone trying to shoot a couple more matches before the WPR finale in August? Or headed down to Cameo in two weeks for the PRS regional? Think I’m going to try and shoot a match every weekend starting this weekend in Three Forks for the Defy The Distance match and finish with the WPR finale in Billings on the 10th.

Has anyone gone out and tried the Rifleman Teams Challenge matches?

Already starting to talk about the night match and the tactical Turkey match in Cody this fall. Going to be rad.

Going to shoot cut bank Sunday, then train positional on my 1moa steel at 400y until finale. They do an Ironman thing that has a day match followed by the suppressed night match. I like the idea, but will likely just shoot the night match. I don't shoot matches much from Sept through Feb, as hunting season supercedes and frgid cold just kinda ruins the fun.

I wish I could get up to Cut Bank as it looks awesome up there. Good luck.

The Ironman was awesome and exhausting. Highly recommend. I’m in the middle between the two venues so it was a long day of driving.

The Tactical Turkey match was so much fun because they made it two matches in one. You could shoot both with 2 different rifles. One in tac class and the other in open. Super challenging as most set ups were so different no one got an advantage by shooting the stage twice.

Good luck at the finale 👍

Do you happen to have a link fir the Cut Bank shoot, I can't seem to find any information on it, thanks!

This weekend is the second annual Ironman Challenge! Double header morning and night match. Morning match is 6 stages in Lewistown, MT and then we run 234 miles down to Cody, WY for an 8 stage night match. Last year was awesome. There are still spots open for both matches. You can shoot either match individually if you like. The night match is going to be sponsored by Liberty Precision Machine from Dickinson, ND. So if you dont already have a suppressor you can still come shoot with one of their loaner cans. If you need a loaner get signed up right away though so Liberty knows how many to bring.

It’s a new season for the Western Precision Rifle league and both matches will count as an individual match score. So it’s probably the most badass way to kick off the season and start getting your scores for 2025. Hope to see you guys at one or both matches. 🤘

Also the Cody Tac match in November. Highly recommend. This is actually two matches happening at once. It’s an Open match and a Tac match. WPR does not have a Tac division so Cody is hosting its own Tac match. 223 or 308 just like standard PRS Tac class rules. Then there is also the Open match. Shoot whatever.

Now let’s really have fun! Shoot both matches! Going to need two rifles, one for each match. Only rule is they cannot both be the same caliber. Ex: 6GT for open and 308 for Tac. Shooter will shoot each stage twice. Once with Tac and once with Open. Maybe finally bring your ar10 or 223 gas gun to a match and have a blast.

Last year I shot my 25CM and 16” 308 AR10. Even shooting stages twice, the platforms were so different it was pretty difficult. Super fun and I would have never taken that ar10 to a match otherwise.

Highly recommend. They give out Turkeys and Dino nuggies for prizes. Another chance to lock down two scores at one event for the WPR season as well.

I’m going to try to make this one, if I can talk the boss (myself) into easing off the throttle enough to catch my breath.
