I have a couple of muzzle brakes that need the threads chased. My google fu is weak, all I can find are china junk. Who makes quality taps and dies in this thread size?

Go to MSCdirect

Type in the tap spec and the die spec.

Buy both.

Get a bottoming tap or plug with a couple of threads of wash only since you re just chasing threads.

HSS uncoated will be fine

back in the day ,about 40 years ago . in the shop there was a clamp-on tool used to clean up treads . to look at it,it looked like a flaring tool for copper pipe .

Westport Corp. You'll have to call in your order, but you'll get taken care of. I've bought a ring gage, and a 1/4"-24 bastard size tap and die from them a couple years ago. They're a one stop shop if you need any threading tool regardless of size or pitch, if it's a custom size, they can make it. On the 5/8-24 die, they are almost half Mcmaster-Carr's price.
